What's new

One Turtle Farther Down

If that's true I wonder how is it that this seller - "sportshaving" has a 100% feedback with great feedbacks left. How could this be?

I puchased a razor from him once, nothing irregular there, Nick give a good service. Let's be honest for a second, who let their razors in a tarnished condition ? I'd rather shave with a Mach3 than a tarnished piece if scrap metal.

I'm probably the wrong person to answer this, ArNav, but I have read the New Long Comb is milder than the New Short Comb. I have also seen the news mentioned as some of the best vintage Gillettes. And that probably goes beyond my level of knowledge. :001_tongu

Seeing as I have both I can confirm your reading is correct the LC is a tad more tame than the SC.

It would tarnish easily as all untreated brass does when it's allowed to get wet.

+1 this
Not all that big of a deal to have a naked NEW since most of us give our vintage toys a regular clean and polish and my NEW is due BTW.

I'm torn. I love the colors but I would also like to see that baby (Gillette New LC) all plated up in Rhodium.

You could get 2 News, 1 in rhodium and 1 in alternating rose gold/gold from RestoredRazors/onotoman! :001_rolle

I have, of course, not even remotely considered this. Nope. And I most certainly have not thought about getting my 2 favorite News (2 still in transit and hoping the British New and the Goodwill win since the British is flexible with any handle and the Goodwill has that cool "studs projecting through the top cap" and emobssing) in such a color scheme and then adding a nice handle, such as a UFO or, for the rhodium one, that fancy Pearl Razor blue acrylic pearlized one with the silver top. No, I haven't spent WAYYYYYY too much time on this. :001_tongu

Dangit, now I'm thinking of how gold Goodwill studs would look against a rose gold top cap with a gold baseplate and a rose gold handle.

Huh. :bored: When you have time to give it thought let me know. I have to leave now. You've got my RAD going again. Guess I'll scrub with a Brillo pad until it goes away. :yikes::letterk1::out:

I think the top cap id copper, not brasd, but I could be wrong. A few members here have polished off the plating and it does look nice. I think if you keep it clean and dry you can keep the tarnish under control.
You could always have it replated, there was just a thread about this service yesterday here.

It is an excellent shaver. I should have probably not bought mine because once i broke that barrier i went on a vintage razor, double edge and single (!!) edge frenzy.

There should be a warning somewhere to never buy from this eBay seller "Sport Shaving". He takes all the plating off the razor and then polishes the brass making it seem like its a nice shiny specimen when without any plating these razors are not worth much.

It would be fine if he would say in his listings that there is no plating left, but he rarely does. I saw him list a Milord one time saying "perfect beautiful condition" when it was missing all of it's plating, but he shined the brass right up to make it look like gold plating in photos. I messaged him and told him to stop deceiving buyers. His reply was, "What am I supposed to do, say it's in poor condition?" My guess is he buys razors in poor condition off eBay and takes a jewelry wheel to them.

If you just purchased this a daily shaver then no big deal, but I hope you didn't pay too much for it.

His reply was, "What am I supposed to do, say it's in poor condition?" Well, he doesn't have to say that, but he could say that the plating has been removed.

He could also not use the slogan "fully restored" in his pictures. And the "gold finish is no longer in tact, but has been polished to perfection" is an odd statement.
