Oh How The Mighty Have Fallen

I think Derby's are pretty consistent, I am working through a 100 pak that I bought and find them consistent and reliable. I do get a better and longer lasting shave with a couple of other blades that I have in stock but the Derby is good. I think with so many people using Derby the variation in performance comes from the operator versus the product.

The Derby blades are a good product, IMO, and the Shavingfactory folks are good to deal with. Prompt shipping, good service. No duds in my experience.

Recommended.

+1 I keep coming back to Derby blades as my overall best performer

Can't say enough good things about The Shaving Factory and Derby blades. I have about 200 of them, and they are my go-to blade for each of my razors. Never had a dud in almost two years of using them. Not one.

I give them to my friends who are starting wetshaving, and each of them remark at the quality of the shave compared to the (gulp!) Walmart blades they've used before.

I think this is probably a case of YMMV, as is much of everything else in our hobby.

I can't use Derby blades because they irritate my skin. But that's my YMMV issue, not everyones. However, I think that the OP makes a valid point. While it's great to be a fan of a product we need to be cautious especially when it comes to blades. With the right packaging any blade can became whatever the manufacturer/distributor wants us to believe. We need to be certain that when we buy a product that the folks we buy from are getting them from a legit source. Otherwise, we could be wasting our money and our loyalty on something inferior. Derby may be the most recent victim, I doubt that this story ends here.

I've never tried them, but you've inspired me to load one into the fat boy in the morning.

Ok, that was dumb. My technique is awful - 30 weepers with a fresh Derby in a fat boy. I was trying to get a close shave- now my whiskers are hidden by the swelling.

I have switched from Derby's to Gillette (yellow pack) - my current preferred blade, or Red IP's. I found the Derby's to be too harsh the first shave or two. Shaves 3-5 were usually very good. I started to hand strop them and that helped, but I decided it was just easier to switch to a smoother blade.

The timing of this thread is dang nigh perfect. I received a sampler yesterday and decided to give the Derbies first run. Horrible. I don't know why I even bothered with them. I get vastly superior results with the Walmart Personnas. Hopefully the different blades won't be as harsh, nasty, and downright heinous as the Derby.
