NOCvember 2024 - No Open Combs in November

That’s an interesting observation. There are two versions of the English Tech. One indeed aluminium and very light. The other one full brass including the handle. I only have the brass one and I would say for me it is noticeably effective rather than mild. Maybe even more than my prewar US Tech. But as always everything is YMMV.

Etched cap looks nice by the way!
I agree Guido…the heavy English version is a brilliant razor…..surpringly efficient and close. One of the best Techs IMO

Omega 10108
HWF no1 soap
Gillette yellow SharpEdge blade
1969 Gillette Super Adjustable 84

Haven’t used this one for a long time…part of my reason for signing up for NOCvember was to use my collection and re evaluate how each one performs for me, with a view to maybe moving some on. Unfortunately I’ve liked them all so far and can’t see myself getting rid of any soon.
The SA 84 gave a lovely smooth shave…set it on 7 and enjoyed it very much. A great shave but the ‘41 Ranger still edges it IMO. I’d been using my Henson+++ a lot in the last few months but it’s been a bit of a revalation how good some of these vintage razors are. Gave my Henson using buddy a flare tip recently and he loves it.

Preshave: Proraso Red and the Flairisol mister before each pass
Shaving Brush: RV Shaving 25 mm STF in Strawberry Amber

2 passes with the fatboy, WTG on 9, XTG on 5 for half pass, 2 ATG the rest. No blood no drama. Nill sting from the splash.

L'Essor Le Suprême 🇨🇵 Wilkinson Sword ('80s) 🇬🇧

I started off thinking that the idea of a "differential" adjustable was rather ridiculous. But then it occurred to me how often I actually dial back a regular adjustable between the first and second passes anyway (perhaps just because I can!).

By having each side at slightly different blade gaps this superb 1930s Le Suprême negates the need to adjust it mid-shave. Just find the setting you want on the more aggressive blue dial for the first pass, then simply switch to the red dial for the second. Incroyable!

Whatever your views on this rather novel arrangement this antecedent to the Gibbs adjustable is a fantastic razor. A brilliant, silky smooth start to the weekend using one of my favourite blades, a 1980s English Wilkinson Sword.

Last night’s blade-forward shave
RazoRock Super Slant Lvl 3SB
7 O’Clock Permasharp (1)
Damp facecloth aka “shave binky”
No brush
Pre-shave: face wash with shaving cream x2
Lather: Amazon Basics shaving cream
Aftershave: Olm Nom
Post-shave: lukewarm shower :001_wub: and a drop of hyaluronic acid and a drop of glycerin
Post-shave: Equate moisturizer

Another shave that straddled the border of very smooth and overdoing it. Below the jawline and on the neck needed two passes, but that was short work. Finding if my angle is off, a light touch results in skipping (a recipe for aftershave sting when the edge leads) and the correct angle is simply sublime.

Saturday and off to the football today to see a certain team from near Isleworth in West London…..once home to the Gillette factory where this old razor was made.
One of my favourites …the red tip.
Chose more red items in keeping with the team today…fantastic close shave with arko , Perma-Sharp and Omega boar all contributing to a great start to the day.

Shave tonight. Pic taken in morning sun light + "Lollipop" filter.

This is the fancy take on the Game Changer/ Guerilla geometry. This is one of my favorite DSCosmetic handles. Nobody ever complained they wouldn't be shiny, but they even manage to make knurling slippery, so one has to rely on a grippy shape of the handle.
