What's new

Newbie Razor ID

The ball end handles are hollow and press fitted that’s why most of them have cracks. The fat handle is hollow as well but can be weighted with lead shot or similar if needed. I keep mine stock.

@MassRaffa a Razorock stainless Steel handle will put enough weight on it without any fiddling.

Yes that looks lovely but I am trying to move on my razors and get them down to a minimal amount which is hard. I fell hard at the beginning and bought too many razors. I l love the vintage old razors, I found a lot in Antique stores and rescued them with intent to cleaning them up and moving them on. But it's hard to let them go and I don't use bay just mplace. Not many people understand the quality of the old vintage razors over the disposable ones.

The fat handles feel like they weigh less than the ball end handles, to me. I think they’re formed out of thinner walled material. I think the ball end handles are machined from bar stock.

One good thing is all the parts are interchangeable between the two Tech models.

Plus the Tech top cap will thread into most Gillette handles from 3-piece razors. These handles from various models below will mate up with the Tech top end.

Aside from a few outliers (Fatip most prominently) the threads one most razors are so close that you can mix and match handles as you like. Travel Techs with the super short handles should be the cheapest to find especially in old unused Travel/Grooming cases. Get a nice looking one and add any vintage or contemporary handle that you like for a daily driver.

So I have three Techs I bought as a tech the other I bought in a Wyatt Daymark I am looking for the Wyatt Daymark.

Then I rescued a Travel Grooming set brand new from an Antique shop it came with a tech. Which I am trying to move on.

Slickness is a sickness

Yep. You can find NOS, or near, brass travel Techs cheap and swap the handle. I often look for them on the 'bay, and avoid the travelers with the embossed zamak caps.
