I sort of don't understand the Cellini line. It seems like Rolex's "fashion line". For me, Rolex should have an automatic movement and be tough, which are the characteristics of the brand. These seem to be going after the same market as entry level watches from Vaucheron, Bruguet, Jaeger, etc... but no way can Rolex match the fit and finish of those watches IMHO. I'm with the poster who suggested looking at "pre-owned" Patek for a similar price.
And the comment that Rolex is "purposely priced well beyond the middle class budget for a reason." is just silly. What is the reason? It is comments like that from Rolex wearers that give the brand its bad name among many "serious" watch fans.
The issue is that Rolex sells well over a million watches a year and only a tiny number of people buy them as enthusiast or collector watches. The average Rolex Buyer is a person who has bought the line that Rolex is the best watch in the world and is a badge conveying certain characteristics to the wearer. This has created the market and the more they raise the prices the more coveted the watch becomes.
Most really wealthy people wear the Rolex as a beater watch.
