What's new

New razors for a new year: Two new Yaqis (likely 34C and 37C clones)

Looks like I beat you to it @Iridian .
Only fair ofcourse, I did order an hour earlier.
First shave tomorrow!

I just bought a Canadian-made Game Changer 84 for £66.63 shipped and it arrived in the UK in 1 week.

Yeah, alot will depend on where you live.
Yanks and Canadians will get stainless Razorock products for about 50 dollars, over here at fortress Europa they're 100-110 euros. The Superslants are 160-ish euros.

The Chinese were kind enough to ship this Slanted 37 over within 6 days, so no complaints.
For some mysterious reason we don't have to pay extra VAT on products from China as long as they're under 150 euros.
If we order something from the UK or US for whatever price, we're basically screwed.

I don't think the RR 37 has been released in stainless as this moment? But you're not wrong, price will probably be similar.
This one does come with the extra coloured tips, so it's a free bonus if you will.
I have nothing bad to say about Yaqi or Razorock. Their products both boast a quality finish.

Alright, I just humped the face dry with the slant 37 and a Permasharp to get an initial impression and it feels very mild.

The handle doesn't have alot of grip either. I'm predicting @Iridian will most likely dislike it. 🙂
What, it already arrived?! I am still at "Awaiting for transit to final delivery office. Package arrived at facility of the local delivery company".

See, another reason to ... aww, let me stop from getting political! ;)

I missed your first notification in the afternoon, that was really a fast delivery.
To show how fiercely competitive Germany is by now, I ordered on January 2nd a pair of Renegade Evo hiking boots, they finally bothered to send them out this afternoon, one hour after you got the package you ordered a day earlier in China. That's just sad, isn't it?!

Unfortunately it very much looks like you are right, this one looks even closer to the Merkur 37 original than the Razorock copy.
Hmm, another mild razor. At least it has colorful pommels. I will likely use the smurf-blue knob.

Aliexpress has a warehouse in the EU so, that explains a lot of fast shipping and no VAT on a lot of orders.

Regarding the USA shipping, A $5 tennis ball (1, not the whole tube) would cost you $65 in shipping via a slow boat to Europe based on my last attempt to mail something to Austria.

My last order from an independant dealer in Germany was for a hiking stove I can't get in the USA for whatever reason the Echo-Nazi's in power care to suggest. Apparently, a "White Gas" hiking stove is more dangerous to the Earth than a 100 or more new coal power stations being built in China each year! 🤬

Thankfully, DE and SE razors and related shave products aren't on their radar so, as long as it is alcohol-free (No FLOIDS for me), I can get the good stuff out of Europe. To those idiots that think I might "drink" my FLOIDS, put your CRACK Pipe down! 🤬 This isn't like a piece of chocolate with a toy inside or a Mon Cheri with cherry liquor inside with the cherry! 🤬

You have clearly missed the recent abuse outbreak of hiking stoves turned into poot flamethrowers which some people were using to attack others who refused to praise them for using Floid!

I'm not the best at translating what I feel during a shave into words, but here we go.

The handle of the Yaqi 37 is pretty thick, perhaps maybe a smudge too thick for my girlish small hands, which doesn't help with grip. But it's serviceable all the same.

Handle feels like it's mostly hollow, which makes it feel a bit cheaper than it actually is. I actually get some kind of zamak vibe holding the razor. Despite the threading on both ends you can't look through the tube, which is weird given the weight.
The head is heavier than the handle, even with the bomb tip installed. I was kind of hoping the tip would give a nice counter balance, but they're very light - most likely aluminum and clearly hollow, bit of a missed chance imo.

The usual flexible plastic/rubbery washer has been replaced by a thicker stiff washer, surely to please Iridian - I know how much he hates those flexible thingies.

The shave felt somewhere between mild and medium aggressive, leaning more toward the first than the latter. It's a very smooth shaving device, there is very little to no blade feel.
Three passes in the shave and I noticed a little rogue stubble near my mouth, but it was dealt with after a quick 4th cleanup pass over that area.

I was left without irritation and in a videomeeting 2 hours post shave, I found myself staring at my baby cheeks.
I have a fairly pale complection during winter and my facial hair is black, so easily visible and shows up quick. This slant had given me a perfect result.
Quite content with the first shave but not yet completely smitten. I'm reserving my judgement until I've had a shave or five.
If I were to guess my reservations are most likely because it looks and feels a bit cheaper than you'd expect from a stainless steel razor.
I am no expert in steels and alloys, quite possibly someone more clever will come along and tell me that it's actually plated zamak (though wouldn't that be heavier?) and I wouldn't be surprised.

Hey @Shaun asleep at least the washer thing is good news. My razor is likely to arrive tomorrow, but my Lowa boots made a sprint and just arrived before I got home.

The hollowed out handle IMO is very likely from Yaqi Ultima production, this handle is very light. I will compare with my Ultima once I got it.

I guess the knobs might be aluminum, but I will be able to tell you by holding them. Not so much by weight, haptically and also in terms of surface temperature I can discern aluminum and steel quite easily.

It's a very good looking razor for sure! I hope it doesn't suck too much.

That's not entirely correct, imo.

The payment made by the EU customer to AliExpress already includes the import sale taxes (applicable instead of VAT). AliExpress will pay these taxes to EU custom authorities directly, this way you are not burdened to pay this amount to your "last mile carrier" once you get your parcel (which would be even more, since the carrier gets an extra fee for this service).

If (and only if) your purchase passes the 150 Euro limit, then additional customs duty has to be paid (on top to import sale taxes) - if customs duty is applicable to the class of the imported goods.

If we order something from the UK or US for whatever price, we're basically screwed.
It's the same as above... whenever you place a non EU order. At least that's the understanding of me and my wallet 😊

More importantly: thank you for review. :) What's the diameter of the handle?

Cheers!

All correct... only if you exceed 150 euros there are additional costs which are duties and postal charges of your country
