What's new

*NEW* Acca Kappa 1869

There's nothing unique about the AK soap, if you like almond there are probably much better almond soap choices out there.

I'd use the cream instead. Hard consistency closer to soap than traditional cream, shea butter, lanolin - what more can you ask for?

Can anyone comment on the consistency of the cream in the tub? Is it a thick, almost soap-like cream - like Aqua di Parma for instance?

It's the densest cream I've run across and more the AdP in my opinion. I recommend loading it on a brush as you would a soap and either bowl lather or you can face lather.

If it's denser than Aqua di Parma, it must be as dense as lead :tongue_sm

I think a lot of guys get old pots of AdP, me included. My AdP has the consistency of taffy or hard honey. I assumed it was supposed to be that way.

AK is great dense stuff. Not as hard as Cella. Much more dense than Trumpers. More like spreadable butter. It's lovely stuff.

Anyone tried the fragrances? The cream is so good I'm checking out the other products in the line.

I tried a sample of the Cedar and it is some potent cedar smell that's for sure. Too much for me

I had 2 samples of AdP cross my path, one was yellow and hard, the other one was white and softer, definitely much easier to work with as a sample - neither worked for my skin though.

Would you guys please stop recommending more creams and soaps! I have enough in my vanity to last more than 10 years and yet I buy more. :w00t:

Just placed my order (with free shipping) at shavenow.com. I hope you guys are correct about how wonderful this AK cream performs!

It's great cream. Among the best, IMO. I'm just not crazy about the scent (kind of a sweet almond). I never was much of an almond guy, which is a shame because all the Italian soaps (not all, I'm exaggerating) smell like almonds.

I feel the same way about almond and coconut, even though I like to eat them, something doesn't click with me in a shaving product. However, lately I caught myself sniffing my Cella and Col Conk Almond soaps more and more. I think almond is starting to grow on me. I don't like P160 but that's a different scent, marzipan. Can't wait to try AK. I hope coconut is not the next scent that's going to sneak up on me.

Great review, and it really makes me want to try AK, except for the fact that the prospect of owning yet another almond-scented Italian product does not really excite me. Italian shaving products are truly of the highest quality, but why the obsession with almond scents? I know it's supposed to be a traditional Italian barbershop scent and all... but if there's anything I've learned from the overabundance of choice in American products, it's that customers always prefer variety. You might make the best vanilla ice cream in the world, but there's always going to be a lot of people that wished you'd make chocolate as well.

Here's what I'm thinking: Valobra stick + QED scenting (intense, authentic, EO-based). Is this impossible?

Marco, do you have any idea why most Italian soaps/creams tend to be Almond scented?

In Italy Almond trees are very abundant and Italian Almonds are of excellent quality. Hence Italian Master Soap manufacturers started, over a century ago, using this sweet, pleasant fragrance for producing our first shaving soaps (Cella was the very first). Italian Master Barbers and Italian wet shavers immediately fell in love with the great Almond perfume and it quickly became a classic barbershop scent. This explains why both Old School soaps (Cella, Valobra and P.160) and new soaps/creams (new AK 1869, Figaro) have this fragrance.
