My Favorite Razors

Very strange... you're browsing this thread, reading only superlatives about the RazoRock Superslant, but when you look at the two threads 1 and 2 about favorite razors, you see that not one person listed the RazoRock Superslant as a favorite...
Over the last 10 years, I’ve owned around 50 razors, but I never set out to build a collection. Instead, I sold the ones that didn’t measure up to the new ones I acquired. In a way, my approach to "razor management" is guided by a sense of minimalism and frugality.

My all-time favorite razor is probably a Timeless. Recently, I added a Superslant to my lineup, complete with three open comb base plates.

The Superslant is so impressive that it’s earned a permanent spot in my rotation. I tend to avoid threads like "What are your favorite razors?, or what are your Top-5?" because those discussions are often dominated by people with large collections. I, on the other hand, only own two razors. But after trying so many over the past decade, I can confidently say the Superslant stands out as one of my favorites.

Which is your favorite Timeless, maybe .95? And which Superslant baseplate comes closest to the aggressiveness and efficiency of the Timeless?

I wouldn’t choose a favorite Timeless plate because each has its specific use case. That said, the plate I’ve used the most is probably the .68 SB, but that was during a period when I shaved every day. About a year ago, I switched to shaving every other day, and the .95 SB became the best fit for this routine.

Right now, my skin is a bit sensitive, so I prefer using the .68 SB. Despite the efficiency of the .95 being more satisfying.

When I bought the Timeless, I knew I had to get both plates since it was replacing my Rockwell 6S. The real upgrade with the Timeless was the titanium. It was a noticeable step up in weight, balance, and overall feel.
To be honest, I never ended up using all the levels of the Rockwell.

As for the Superslant, it has a completely different feel compared to the Timeless. The Timeless remains the smoothest razor, regardless of the plate, and its weight and balance feel better in my hand than the Superslant.

In terms of blade feel, the L1++ OC plate falls somewhere between the .68 SB and .95 SB plates. I haven’t used the L2++ OC much, but it seems at least as efficient as the .95 SB (if not more). The L3++ OC is a beast! I’ve only used it once, so I won’t elaborate too much on that plate. The L3++ OC just replaced my R41.

In my opinion, the L1++ OC plate is the most versatile. It’s mild enough to minimize irritation yet efficient enough to handle shaving a full beard with ease.

I hope my thoughts are helpful. I don’t consider myself great at comparing razors, but I’ve done my best to share my experience.
:)

@Lockback , Just revisited this thread. Curious now that you have almost an extra year of DE/SE shaving under your belt if your perspective on your five favorite razors has changed? Same question for anyone else who posted above.

I'm still using the same three noted on my initial post above though I tend to use my Weishi 9306 TTO Long Handle (same as your rebranded Van Der Hagen except for handle length) the most.

My opinions haven't changed radically at all. But since I've added several razors to my inventory, it's natural for some changes to come to the fore. Example: I started with the Van Der Hagen TTO. It's not in my Top Five now, not because it's a bad razor (it's quite good) but because other razors have superceded it.

I could actually amend my list once again and put the Edwin Jagger in the Top Five. I have two of them and they never give me a bad shave. I'm sure at some point I'll revisit the list. Reading it again tonight I was surprised the Jaggers weren't in there ...

Currently, the five razors I am most likely to select on a shave day.

1. Blackland Osprey.

2. Yaqi Avanti.

5. Gillette Super Adjustable.

My preference is for adjustables, obviously.

High praise indeed, if it compares favorably to the Yates 921-H and Blackbird. I have both of those in stainless steel and for me they are absolutely top-tier.
For me the 3one6 offers a shave similar to the Bird and Yates H. They all shave a little differently but end results are very close between all 3 razors.
