MWF Closing?

Another supplier closing up shop. That's sad to see. I tried MWF early on in my wetshaving days with the original Tallow version and struggled to make a lather. I would have liked to give the newer reformulation a shot to see how it is now.

"I shall miss you, Withnail"...

Sad to say goodbye to a troublesome old friend. Glad that I still have two pucks of Mitchell's to use and treasure. The fragrance of the soap is quite possibly my favourite of any shaving soap, and it will be missed. Closest thing I can compare it to is Cerutti 1881 edt, for that fresh laundry fragrance. End of an era.

Just as an aside for those of you who struggle to achieve a rich lather with MWF it could be your water. Try 10ml of bottlled water directly onto the soap and work up a lather using a dry brush, works for me.

Without any hesitancy ... YES!

I'm another who considers their latest formulation to be superior to the tallow version and quite frankly did not stock up extra tallow refills when I could and I am quite glad that I didn't, given that. I will be buying a few more refills of the latest formulation.
Sad news. Time to get a last puck before the start of my 2025 GRUYERE.

Well..., MWF died last year for me. And it was a big loss. But then, I am getting numb to this pain since we have been through this exercise over the past several years. Palmolive, Valobra, Speick, Williams, to name just a few.
2025 will bring another one down, I have no doubts.
Tallow MWF is my best shaving soap, and I will enjoy it for many years to come. It simply checks all the boxes.

Does anyone have experience with both the bath soap and the shave puck (tallow version?)

I went searching for the soap and found a site that has the tallow bath bar and wondering if it's the same as the shave soap, just in a different configuration?

No, it's not the same soap.

As a general rule of thumb, if you don't see potassium in the ingredients list (e.g., potassium stearate, potassium tallowate, potassium palmate, etc.), then it's not really a shaving soap. There may be exceptions, but this is generally the rule.

I liked the old tallow formula. Their shave soap was a fun distraction from my regular rotation soaps. But that was about it. However, I was a huge fan of their bath soap. Unfortunately, that formula changed well before the shave soap, and that bath soap went from amazing to garbage overnight. That was a shame. The change of the shave soap to a non-tallow formula was a shame. And now the death of the whole business is a shame.

I'm currently using up my last puck of the old formulation bath soap. It had been stored in a drawer for years and a couple of weeks ago I just thought I'd revisit it; kind of fitting in a way. It's very good indeed.
I have used the tallow shaving soap off and on over the years and always thought it was pretty good, but not a real favourite. I've still got a puck somewhere or other. Still, a great shame that it's gone for ever.

Hi, I have both. It's not the same soap though it is excellent for bathing. The bath bar is the slickest soap I've ever used but it's not optimized to also deliver stable lather like the shaving soap is.
