What's new

MWF Closing?

YES!!
That scent is something very special and unique.

I've used more than 200 soaps over 16 years and to this day, MWF remains my all time favourite scent!
(Speick tallow stick coming in at #2)

I only have 4 pucks of the MWF tallow formula remaining so i don't use it often as i want to enjoy it for many years to come.
In addition to great lather that tallow MWF scent is also my favorite. A really unique scent that reminds me of clean laundry hung out to dry on a nice Spring day.

@nav I've also got four tallow pucks squirreled away (one of last formula and one of those in use) It is slso my favorite scent. Palmolive Stick is my very close second favorite scent. Thankfully Ove got 20 something of those sticks so between the two I'm not liable to run out for years. Hopefully by then the world will come to its senses and both MWF and Palmolive Stick will be back on the market. I'm practicing being optimistic, lol.

All that to say you have fabulous tastes Friend Nav!
Love your post, for folks like me on the other side of the pound we are rotating between our MWF tallow pucks and in my case two dozen + discontinued Williams Shave Soaps that were sold locally until three years ago.

I've only got 4 or 5 of the vintage Williams in the stash, but like 24 or something like that of the modern version. I'm not a huge fan of the modern version of Williams as I find it drys my skin out more than any other soap I've tried, but it is slick and it's the first soap I used way back in high-school so I've a fondness for it in that regard.

All of my Williams is the modern version. It was the first shaving soap I used when I returned to DE shaving over 5 years ago. Used to blend it with other soaps for easier lather that still delivered Williams slickness. Later I started using a boar brush on it to load enough product.

With more experience I can now generate rich creamy lather from it with any of my brushes (synthetic plissofts) easily via my "mug soap" method that starts with a really wet brush and builds lather directly on the puck. Not at the same level as MWF (call it very good vs. excellent) and of course MWF has the superior scent. Still for what was 99 cents U.S. per puck it was a great value when available.

Thank you mate!

Let's hope someone comes to their senses and brings back MWF the company, and MWF tallow shave soap!
We can dream right?! 😊

I finished off my last Palmolive tallow stick a couple of years back but still have 5 speick tallow sticks.

I mostly use my own shaving soap and use MWF or speick when i have a craving for those lovely scents!! 🤩

Yes!
It's beautiful indeed!

It's not like an in your face cologne scent, which i actually dislike.
It's gentle, pleasing and soothing.

SV dolomiti is another scent which i adore as it has similar qualities as MWF.
But i only like the beta 4.1 base and won't purchase beta 4.3 once this puck is finished.

can i ask you why not? What is the difference between 4.1 and 4.3 pucks?

The 4.3 has a much larger proportion of the surfactant "SCI" which creates the kind of lather you get from syndet bars.

SCI is great for shampoo bars and i actually use SCI based shampoo bars.
But that type of lather is just weird as a shaving lather, i didn't like it and sold all my 4.3 SV.
The only one i kept was the 4.1 dolomiti.
The SCI is far less in this base.

In fact, when SV released 4.3, they even mentioned that it generates a much faster lather. This is due to the increased SCI.

Attention MWF tallow lovers! We are in Paris for holiday, I visited Planete Rasoir this morning. The shop has 6 remaining tallow soaps (ceramic containers only, no refill pucks) in stock. I checked the labels on each to confirm Sodium Tallowate is first ingredient listed. This must be the largest inventory of tallow MWF still available on the planet (pun intended).

I tried MWF for a while many years ago but never had much luck with it ,mostly me and not the soap I think. The problem I had was getting a good lather, I did get it eventually but it took a while. The shave and post shave feel was great. Would be a pity to see the company go bust after all these years, maybe I should have tried harder :)

Tried it once myself, the old tallow version. I had no luck getting a good lather from it. I loaded the crap out my my brush and just couldn't get anything to make a decent lather. What I got though was slick enough but it just dissipated from my face. I was thinking about trying it again but never got around to buying it as I figured it would never get used. I have much easier lathering soap that are even better than MWF and SV is one of them.

The key is to use plenty of water by either soaking the puck or using a really wet brush via a "mug soap" method where you then build lather directly on the puck. Just using a damp brush will not dissolve enough soap to produce quality lather. I've found this to be true for all my really hard triple milled soaps.

MWF is triple milled so requires a technique that adds plenty of moisture to the puck to enable loading sufficient product. Some folks here soak the pucks to achieve that. I've been successful with my "mug soap" technique where I build lather on the puck with a really wet brush in a roughly 4" high container. See if this can work for you.
Ive used other triple milled soaps and they just work fine same as other soaps. never could get MWF to give good shave. I have like 40 soaps so I moved on to enjoy the others. I turned a puck of mug soap into soup trying to get it to work too. I think theres too many great soaps that work easy to waste time making these work.

wow they must not sell it much if they still had tallow ones.

Hope you’ve gotten one for yourself @dave1269
For me, only the ceramic has value

Don’t mean for that to be interpreted other than I’ve personally had very few satisfactory shaves, between 2 pucks - for whatever reason that may be. But I still like the shave dish
yeah I wish I could gotten the dish, but not paying $40+ for it to throw soap out. most id pay would be $20.

I’ve read very positive results here on the latest batch(es) of veggie Kent pucks. I’m a bit lazy and occupied right now to specify links.
