I would recommend Martin de Candre as a classic shaving soap. Maggardrazors sells samples.
They have been discontinued. Great suggestion if you can find one though.Godrej shave rounds. Perhaps the most popular shaving soap on the planet...perhaps.
Noticing a lot of soaps listed like Mitchell's Wool Fat (MWF), Williams and Godrej that have been discontinued. Regarding current production soaps the top of my list would include Arko, Tabac, PdP and D.R. Harris. All classic hard pucks that, with the likely exception of the Arko sticks, are triple milled.Greetings Gentlemen,
I’ve been into wet-shaving for a while now, overall read a lot of forums and watch youtube on the subject. But want to check if I’m missing out on something.
Basically can you share with me a list of some must try/iconic/classic products.
Something like:
La Troja shaving stick
Tabac shaving soap
D.R. Harrison Arlington shaving soap
Astra blades
MWF
Simpsons Chubby II Brush
Etc.
I’m already starting to venture further then tradition products, my last order was Castle Forbes cream and Saponificio Varesino, but I’m still looking forward to tick all the boxes on the most popular products, for example I’m looking forward to try speck and Pinaud Clubman aftershave.
So I would really appreciate points where I am missing. For example I know the brands like big T, but now sure which products of the brand is considered the most classic and best one (like for example TOBS Sandalwood shaving cream seems best-selling).
Thank you.
Best regards,
A.Goldman
Everybody loves Williams now that it has been discontinued. One thing to consider is that some iconic products might be polarizing in the sense that some people love them, some very much don't. Arko and Williams soaps come to mind. I expect there are others.
Have about 4 tubes of Godrej in my bathroom. It is a wonderful shave cream. So slick. They have been discontinued. Great suggestion if you can find one though.
Sounds like Williams, that is also very slick, once you figure out how to easily lather it. If you've ever used Williams or Arko how does the Godrej compare?Have about 4 tubes of Godrej in my bathroom. It is a wonderful shave cream. So slick.
I absolutely love Arko it is always in my rotation.Sounds like Williams, that is also very slick, once you figure out how to easily lather it. If you've ever used Williams or Arko how does the Godrej compare?
I resisted the urge to try Godrej as we could easily get Williams on our supermarket shelf when both were available and I also had plenty of Arko along with a plethora of mid-market commercial soaps. Too bad so many classic basic "old school" shaving soaps like Godrej, Williams and Palmolive have been recently discontinued.
P.S. Edit, by tubes are you referring to something different from their shaving rounds? Just realized you were likely talking about a shaving cream and not a soap. Suspect the tubes of cream may still be in production.
Oh sorry yes the tubes of shaving cream. I picked them up in Singapore. I never saw the rounds. The cream is wonderful and the scent is nice of the original and the limeSounds like Williams, that is also very slick, once you figure out how to easily lather it.
