What's new

Man, this Musgo Real splash is awesome!

Could someone compare the scents of the splash and balm ? I have the balm but it's a little over powering for me ....thanks

Balms normally have a longer lingering smell because it doesn't dry as quickly as the splash but the scents are identical IMO

I bought the balm last night and loved it on first use!! Very moisturizing, great smell, smooth, non-greasy, all around wonderful!!

Musgo splash is one aftershave that rivals a number of colognes I have in terms of strength. I'm not sure if you will find it any less overbearing than the balm, but that's not a call I can make. On me, it takes the better part of an hour to fade to a level that is "pleasantly present," and the scent continues to stick around for quite a while into the day. I agree with azmark that the scents of the balm and splash are identical.

I'll actually have to try this again...I had the splash and it went on so tacky I hated it. Loved the scent tho....looks like the balm is going on the list to buy.

I recently picked up a bottle after coveting it for a long time. The first morning I used it, I actually said out loud "Damn, this is some manly aftershave!" My wife walked into the bathroom and looked at me funny. The scent is great. The fleeting alcohol burn works for me but it makes my face feel great. It's in the regular rotation now.

Thanks guys for your input... L tried a pea sized amount this A.M. , don't know if it's enough to sooth razor burn, which I seldom get but the scent was much more pleasant for me, not as over powering! Maybe I'll try to get a sample here at B&B or from a vendor.

I just used some today for the first time in ages, and yeah, it's pretty tacky stuff. After a half hour, I had to wet my face and wipe it down with a paper towel. Then it was fine. Their older formula (with the cork label) wasn't nearly so heavy in texture, although the scent was just as strong.

Balms usually don't do well with razor burn. If you have to use balms use an alum block for irritation. Or even better use a Thayer's astringent like the Medicated version, excellent for irritation and good to have around if you have kids to soothe minor scrapes and rashes.

At the risk of being stoned, decapitated and just generally booed, I wasn't a big fan... at first. Unless I got a bad bottle, the stuff had a "wet dog" smell for about five minutes that I just couldn't get past. So, I stopped using it, preferring to use Speick or Provence Sante on days when I needed a top-notch aftershave. I've been using it more and more and have really warmed up to it. I love the efficacy of the product and the scent is more to my liking after the initial soaked German Shepard scent (is it just me who smells this?). It's a great aftershave and I've been using it regularly.

I haven't ever thought of wet dog when using it, but in using it again recently, I was blown away by how strong it is - considerably stronger than I like in an aftershave. Between that and its propensity for getting tacky, Musgo a/s isn't something I use all that often.

Yes, I agree. STRONG. I still get the K9 blast at first, but the reason I've been using it more lately, is that I dig the scent about 30 minutes later (which in an aftershave is already long-lasting) and also, it does very good things to my face. Musgo is unique.

Ok, so the Musgo Real line contains an AS balm, an after shave splash -'classic' I think it's called - and then you have MR Aqua de Colonia No. 2 'Oak Moss', and Aqua de COlonia No. 3 'Spiced Citrus'.

So which cologne does the AS and balm go better with, Oak Moss, or Spiced Citrus? Or do they go with both?

And, which cologne do you personally prefer?

I haven't tried those MR colognes, but I would imagine a light splash of MR AS would go best with a vetiver scent of some sort.

MR also puts out their cologne #1, Orange Amber. The scent of the a/s is not available as a cologne, but is only available as an aftershave, although the body soap and asb also have that scent. In my opinion, the a/s scent does not go with any of the colognes. Also in my opinion, the scent of the a/s is so strong, you won't need an additional cologne when using it.

Right, thanks Horatio. Ordered the AS splash and the soap.
