What's new

List of years razors were made?

I did some searching about a list or something for the years different razors were made. I would like to find a razor like a DE or straight or any razor that was made my birth year. Is there something like that on the Badger or any website? Or even possible to find out?

My thinking is this.... i was birthed near the end of 1973. I am hoping to purchase, in the future, a razor from that possibly was made during the year 1973.

My searching is terrible...

1973 was still a good year for Gillettes, with many models still in production although radically changed from their original designs in most cases.

The Super Adjustable will be available. Also the short Super Adjustable 84.

As will the classic Tech

The Super Speed and the UK and European replacement, the Slim twist

Slim Twist (and the close US equivalent the Knack)

You might even be feeling ambitious and hunt for maybe (?) the last of the all-metal Super Speeds in production. A rare bird.

Quite a few to collect from 1973, or the year of T.

Good luck!

Straights even more so. You could get a range of time, but likely not an identifiable specific year
Pretty much, unless it had some kind of commemorative etch (for instance the Henckels model 250 which celebrated their 250th anniversary in 1981). Another example would be the Tanifuji Cape Kennedy 77 which was made in 1971 when Tanifuji was 77 years old.

The one exception to this is that razors made in the USSR typically had the year stamped on the tang. But...they quite doing that around 1970 if what I have read is accurate.

@luvmysuper i obviously missed seeing that information. But i would have asked the same question if i seen that post. Having more options to look through is a good/fun thing for me.

And for the answers i currently have, Gillette maybe the only one that a precise year could be found from.

Thank you

It's not that easy to find, and the question comes up time to time.

@MrSpeedy another 1973 guy? Cool. I feel like my/our generation got hatched at a decent time period. We got to see personal at home computers be born. Beepers and portable phones, that were/are cellphones (today's cellphones i now call pocket computers). All phones have call numbers and names which started on home phones many moons ago. And video games from intellivision on up.

that is good/great information. But i will be looking to find and buy a 1973 razor towards summer of 2025. I am still going to look for and at them until that time line.

Thank you

I'm asking every deity and other fictional things to grant me or gift me money... hahaha...

There is a '73 Lady Gillette that was made, and I should have added it to the original photolist

It's so easy for graph and chronology compilers to err slightly though, as the Gillette stable was still bewilderingly diverse and multi-national.

As a side note, the unique female-specific instructions are interesting and the opportunity for Gillette to push more products. Never seen the details on the packaging till now.

I refer to us - Gen X - as the last analog generation.

Us G1 to G4's saw the most change I think! (G = 1961)

Another 1973'er here.

It is nice to see a few more options if they ever arise. I knew of the lady Gillette and Black Beauty, the others are new info to me.
