Let’s Find The True MWF Replacement.

Alright gents I just made a post about how Mitchell’s Wool Fat is my favorite soap. Welp. Apparently they are out of business and going extinct.

Now, Let’s brainstorm together to help both myself and all wet shavers alike, find a TRUE contender to what MWF WAS.

A classic soap with beautiful packaging (think luxury), a simple clean scent that goes with ALL aftershaves/balms (imo), pretty readily available and most importantly, it lathers like a Dream.

Now the criteria to meet this list to find the true top dog is as follows.

1. Comes in a puck.

2. Simple clean scent.

3. Extremely versatile.

4. In business and readily available.

5. Provides a world class lather Zeus himself would be proud to shave with.

BONUS POINTS for beautiful “luxury” style packaging/wrapping and brand heritage/prestige.

I’ll kick this off with Stirling Sheep. Although it does have an “animalistic” scent that doesn’t quite hit the mark, it does provide a truly luxurious lather.

Note, if your soap picks don’t quite hit ALL the marks but are still contenders in your opinion, please provide the specific reasoning they might not be the perfect top pick to replace MWF.

Let us begin.

What about Martin de Candre? Rose or Vetyver. Not a puck but triple milled.

Or Häslinger. Schafmilch flavour, or actually all of them are pretty mild scents. It’s a puck. Not luxury packaging but the little metal tins are kinda cool.

Or Abbate Y La Mantia. Krokos (saffron) is the classic, but I really like the pucks they do now. Verbena is my favourite flavour.

For the best lather it’s Kaliflower Citrus Cedar. Very mild, pleasant scent. Hard enough to be nearly puckish. Metal tin.

Or the Fitjar Islands soaps. Premium Scandiwegian packaging. Pucks. All mild, fresh flavours. Have this sort of minimalist vibe that makes people think your house is nicer and tidier than it is.

Tallow + lanolin combo is hard to find. Stirling Sheep is pretty close.

This is very true. However, I wouldn’t say tallow + lanolin are essential to replacing MWF due to MWF changing their own formula. I didn’t try the tallow version of MWF however the reformulated MWF still preformed pretty close to the sheep by Stirling (imo).

Is it swell time?
+1 on Hampshire Wool Fat. Quite small pucks, but I am currently finishing one with 113 shaves (2.5 passes) and counting.

You can find it listed as TantraHampshireSoap on Etsy. Shipping outside of the UK is harder, but I have heard they are easy to contact and discuss options.
