Lambda Athena

A work of art, but will be interested in how the handle works out. My polished Asylum Evolution (Darwin clone) is probably the baseline most grip-less razor in the stable, but even my Rocnels with weight plus sort of limited cross hatching are strictly dry-handed. Ambassador and Konsul are kings of the velcro grip for me. Beautiful razor though....

Just had my maiden shave with my newly acquired Athena earlier today.

First impression thoughts:

Start to finish, it was every bit as smooth as comfortable a shave as I had heard. I was surprised by just how much blade feel there was; this wasn’t rough or uncomfortable in any way but I was a bit caught off guard initially. It was also more efficient than I was expecting based off what the had heard, but it was somewhat line with what I would have expected given the blade feel I experienced during the shave.
First pass was very solid but left a few missed spots behind; second pass however, effortlessly cleaned up my stragglers. Overall, it wasn’t my closest shave but I was amazed at the results given just how comfortable the shave felt. Even more importantly, I had little to no post shave irritation; and I was actually expecting to have some from the amount of blade feel I picked up on during the shave.

As silly as it sounds, I think the main thing that would prevent this razor from ever being my daily driver is it’s almost too pretty to use. I found myself holding my breath each time I transitioned my hand placement from fear of dropping and scuffing it. Post shave I found myself far more obsessed with cleaning and drying it than I am with any of my other razors; I’m generally really good about drying my razors after each shave anyway but without thinking about it I found myself meticulously drying every corner of the razor with a Q-tip. It felt like that classic Sunday car that stays in the garage until you have just that the right amount of time on your hands to enjoy it.

I don’t think I have enough data points to consider ranking it ahead of my Blackland Osprey SS, Blackland Blackbird Ti, or Bronze Guerrilla, but it did instantly feel like it was in the same league.
