Knife sharpening class

The book I mentioned by him doesn't go into the sharpening of Japanese blades specifically. However, it does speak to the metallurgy of them, and the craftmanship. He gets interested with a certain Japanese chisel (Iyoroi), so predictably, he hops a plane and goes over to see how they're made. The guy is a perfectionist.

Overall, it's a great reference work to have around.

Well, it was a great time.
Dave is a wonderful teacher and host. I may return to Fleetwood some day to visit all the cash I left there after running through Dave's Warehouse.:tongue_sm

I would recommend this class to anyone who sharpens, Dave was able to address everyones needs from the newest ( I mean open up your new stones at the class, new) to some pretty competent sharpeners.

One of the highlights of the class was seeing all the steel that everyone brought with them.

A great bunch of guys,a wonderful host, a quick dinner at the Ugly Oyster, a Monti #2 for the ride home........Perfect day!

Ah, so it was like Vegas.

I was a wee bit busy on Saturday, but it sounds like a great time. I'm sure the most important thing you picked up was a wealth of information. :thumbup1:

As in most endeavors- its important to know what you don't know, if you know what I mean?
After watching Dave do his thing, I know I don't know a thing!

So true. The good news is that you don't have to learn everything he knows. You only have to learn enough to be able to achieve results that satisfy you, and to feel comfortable with your own technique.

I would have been a kid in a toy store with all those stones.........
