John wayne VS Clint Eastwood

Clint.

If it wasn't for John Ford, this would be a trivia contest: which '30s and '40s supporting actor was better--John Wayne or Ward Bond? Clint benefited from working with some good directors too, like Don Siegel and Sergio Leone--and Clint Eastwood.

Both super cool dudes IMO..
but, I always felt I could be somewhat like Clint..lol.. with my white hat and all.. looking all cool... "make my day..."

but The Duke, he was one of a kind.. from his swagger walk,
to his "Fill your hands you son of a ___" "Pilgrim"
he is a hard act to follow
and versatile too..

I love em both!
but Duke for me..
he is more of a father figure of power
Clint is just plain cool

John Wayne.

They Were Expendable ... Sands of Iwo Jima ... Island in the Sky ... The Quiet Man ...

The Duke made some spectacular non-western films, too!!

John Wayne. Don't get me wrong, Clint is great too, but the Duke did some excellent work. The Searchers, for example. Best western ever.

I vote for the Duke.

"I stick to simple themes. Love. Hate. No nuances. I stay away from psychoanalyst's couch scenes. Couches are good for one thing."

My vote goes to the Duke....An American Icon, no doubt. I like Eastwood, and since he's still among the living and still active in the movie business, I'm sure most younger people would be more familiar with him, and he'd get their vote in a popularity poll.

For a classic western, the Duke can't be beat for my money. Favorite John Wayne Western, Rio Bravo....non western, The Quiet Man.

My top pick for an Eastwood movie is Where Eagles Dare, but Eastwood kinda takes a bit of a backseat to the always great Richard Burton. Great WWII movie! :thumbup1:

Clint, as the Outlaw Josey Wales --

"Dyin' ain't much of a livin', boy."

(Responding to a young bounty hunter, who had just told him that he had to do something for a living.)

Eastwood, by virtue of being alive and having more current celebrity. Right now, he has the spotlight, and will garner more votes.

After all the posters here are dead and gone, when it comes to Westerns, John Wayne will be pointed to as an iconic prototype that gave us characters that changed the Western Hero from a squeaky-clean singing cowboy do-gooder to something earthier.

Clint Eastwood will be pointed to as somebody who took the concept further, and added his own stamp to it.

Eastwood has shown more talent as a filmaker, and his range is broader, so if you want to award points for that, then Eastwood wins.

For sheer cultural impact, however, it's John Wayne.

No points for directing or writing, simply a heads up competition on movies, characters, and idol status. Personally I think "The Cowboys" was the tops for the Duke. The best for Eastwood was Josie Wales,IMHO." Because when you're up against it, you've gotta get mean, I mean plumb mad dog mean".

For me this is like asking if I want a big honkin' steak for dinner, or a rock. I'll take the steak (aka John Wayne). I do not know what it is, but I just don't like Clint Eastwood in any movies I've seen, even ones he directs. The Duke for me please!
