IW holster and magazine drop??

I have had many different types of holsters over 35yrs of on and off carrying and had NEVER had a mag come off.
This is a Vedder holster that accommodates a light. I already had a holster CYA with no light and NO issues. The Vedder was more than x2 the price and a long wait.
This is an HK with a button release.

Sure enough....get off the car (at home ) as I removed the holster it was too light....no mag. The holster does NOT protect the mag release button (but the CYA) does.

I wrote to Vedder but it smells that they will never answer.

Now have you experienced something similar.... dropped mag .

Pictures would help.

Without them, the whole story isn't being told, and I don’t know what "CYA" is, or what you're referring to as your comparison.

I have Vedder holsters (Lighttuck) for 3 of my handguns. All of them completely cover and protect all controls and the trigger. In any event, Vedder is a good company and they'll stand behind their product or do what they can to make it right. While they have a LARGE range of handgun models they make holsters for, they don't cover all handgun/light combos that are possible. You didn't notice a flaw or lack of protection when you put the pistol in the holster when you received it?

Sorry about your magazine; either way, I'm confident Vedder will make it right.

Addendum....

I wasn't attacking you, by the way, but I took a look at my set ups, and indeed, the mag release button IS still exposed on one of them...

This is my Vedder Lighttuck and my PPS M2. That little bump prevents the release from being inadvertently pushed while installing the holster, but the button is still exposed. I've never had a magazine drop, but I suppose it would be possible. I can't see it happening accidentally with my setup; it takes a deliberate, directed fingertip push.

Upper is Vedder, covers some of the mag release....but enough exposure to drop mag. I am not fat to have rolls pushing, but....maybe it is the pelvic bone:eek2:. Anyway I have always been the same and carry in the same position and it's easy jeans and oversized fishing shirt.

Lower is CYA, which unfortunately make no holsters for lights.

It can happen. Semi auto carriers should always carry a spare magazine. Not for reloads but for magazine failures.

The solution of course is to carry a revolver. Kidding aside, I carry both platforms. Always carry a spare magazine. Always.

Looking at the holster in the top photo, I’m seeing a bend or fold in the Kydex that is already touching the mag release button. I’m guessing that all it would take to drop a mag is to press the grip of the pistol inward towards you.

That fold in the holster should bend inward, towards your body, and away from the mag release. (like the holster in the second picture)

It doesn’t look like the top holster is formed right.

When I compare your Vedder photo to mine, maybe I should be asking Vedder questions! While still exposed, your Vedder does a better job of actually covering the release. Still, I've had no problems. The Kydex doesn't flex or bend... I would tend to agree with Hair Scraper's observation about tight molding. I still don't see how it could be accidentally activated.

Did you recover the magazine? You didn't notice a fully loaded VP magazine dropping out of your carry rig?

Makes me wonder.......if they don't answer......heat gun then push that area out a bit .....

I've never purchased a Vedder, for that reason. I use Tenicor (Velo4), Werkz (M6), and the classic RCS Eidolon. The Eidolon is a best-of, but limited pistol compatibility, unless they've expanded the line recently. Tenicor may need some smoothing, depending on your body type. Werkz is an excellent light holster, but will need some smoothing, light bending and maybe trimming if you carry a compact.

I always check the fit around the mag & slide release, and yes, that was learned the hard way too.😉

Edit to add: I would Dremel a notch where your release is & let the ridge above be your protection. I am assuming that the design compresses that ridge, which is pushing in the kydex enough to hit your release. You can heat & push out, but it's easy to go too far & cause other issues. Cutting/grinding a notch will alleviate the issue, as you can't add kydex to fully cover the release and flare the material out.

Not too familiar with either holster or gun configurations. But aren’t majority of hk’s paddle release. Was there a configuration for the button vs paddle for the holster?
