Is Mennen skin bracer discontinued?

It was a military grocery store.

Buying only four made me laugh out loud.

I’m happy that it’s slowly reappearing. Still nothing on the Montreal south shore.

I'm not sure how many nostalgic wet shavers there are in my area so I tried to leave some for others. The wife laughed as well when I told her. I'm glad she humors me with this.

So here are my thoughts

I looked at both bottles and they look the same. Same color, labels and ingredients.

I gave them both the sniff test off of the bottle and my older bottle has a bit more strength of scent to it.

After my shave I poured a good amount of the new SB from the bottle and applied it to my face. The scent of this newer bottle is definitely milder than the old bottle. The green scent is weaker and I don’t get that powdery scent either.

On my face it feels like the menthol level is a little more noticeable. Than my old bottle.


The scent doesn’t last very long either. The old bottle scent I can smell on me for a good 2 plus hours. This new bottle scent is very faint on me at 30 minutes.

Post feel seems to be about the same.

Overall I’m kind of disappointed that the scent is not what it used to be. That green powdery scent was what I really liked and it has been neutered.

I won’t be buying anymore, unless I hear that the scent has changed back to what it used to be.

I emailed Colgate-Palmolive about this in 2021, since some batches were good and strong and others were weak and diluted. To me it seems like it's a manufacturer mixing error or something. They never got back to me like they said they would. When I emailed them back they said sorry and told me their "Afta" after shave hasn't been reformulated... When I clearly asked about Skin Bracer.

I noticed that my Brut AS changed after a couple of uses, initially I didn't like it, it had a minty note (to my nose) that made me think "TOOTHPASTE!", thankfully it's gone now and I love it. I nose tested a bottle of it at the store the other day, and sure enough that note was there.

I might take the lid off one of my SB's and see what happens, a potency kick would be nice.

Hah! That "toothpaste" note is the opening note of Anise aka Licorice smell. I hate it.

I had a similar experience with my favorite Skin Bracer clone from ALPA, sold as Dapper Dan or Don Draper Green.

I had one bottle that was several times stronger mentholated than the later ones.

I also had a body wash from them that was super mentholated, almost froze the hair on my head lol.

I quite agree to your assessment that there are mixing/dosage or whatever variances to a degree I would deem impossible, but I have seen such things repeatedly over decades and often they indeed reformulate their products, usually replacing one substance with another, similar one to shave off costs.

Now I said cheaper brands but unfortunately many are often not that cheap but nevertheless affected.

The local Walmart had about a dozen bottles today. Also, Old Spice, Aqua Velva, Brut, Stetson, Afta...plenty on hand of each.

Yeah it's getting ridiculous barely anything is useable now. I think Aqua Velva is the only one that hasn't been reformulated in a long time.

The Meijer stores in the Midwest still have it on the shelf. Some stores are low on all aftershave, some are better stocked.

FWIW... per a Reddit forum I stumbled across last week the OP, after initially being told via email/bot that they were discontinued, was actually able to speak with a person at Colgate and was told both Afta and Skin Bracer are still in production. I see plenty of both in stores here in New England USA

OK thanks. I had an agent on a live chat tell me this. I don't know if they're bots or what but they seem lost. Also on the Walmart website Skin Bracer is listed as a best seller, so the entire situation is odd.

I went to my local Walmart three days ago and they only had 4 Skin Bracers left on the shelf. I then went last night and it was fully stocked the batch code for the 4 left the first day, is 4067 that's the first four digits and the batch code for the fully stocked ones is, 4069. Also Afta was fully stocked as well and it was half way stocked three days ago. I don't think neither is discontinued, Colgate-Palmolive are morons, the people representing them have no clue what the hell they make or don't make.
