Is Blackbird really best razor among others ?

Yes, to summarize as so many have stated there is no " best" in shaving. That is for all software , hardware and misc. items involved. Way to many variables in the overall process. But also please remember that there is a company behind that item.
That should be another factor to consider with whatever you are buying. I do not own a Blackbird razor, but what I have observed is that Shane appears to doing all the right things and is very customer connected, centric and delivering high quality. Not easy to do!
So shop smart and remember we are here to "guide" and not to "decide" for you...

I have only been shaving (SR's & DE's) for over 50 years.
Taught by my incrediable dad , who is now 97 and also a daily shaver.
I remember him telling me:
If you did not learn anything today, you have wasted a day.

You are the master of the tool..

This is so YMMV! My wife bought me a Blackbird for my B'day last month. I have been doing a three-pass BBS shave seven days a week for over sixty years. It is an excellent razor. Very comfortable and very efficient once you get the angle right. However, I cannot use it everyday without experiencing some minor irritation after day three.

One of my favourite razors is a Gillette "Fatboy". I get my closest shave on "7", but like the "Blackbird" I cannot shave on "7" everyday. I can still obtain a BBS on "5" and I am able to use that seven days a week. The BBS on "5" does not last as long, but it is so comfortable all day long and that is what I want in a shave. I do not want to feel my skin stinging for three hours after my shave.

You need to use what works for you and don't worry about what everyone else does or uses!

Did Blackland invent a better mousetrap than KCG? Personally, I don't think so, but maybe for some the Blackbird is just what they are looking for.

We have managed to turn a daily chore into a hobby. Albeit an expensive hobby, so please don't try and tell me that wet shaving is going to save me money! Humans have been shaving for tens of thousands of years. Do not try and turn it into some kind of "Rocket Science".

From Wikpedia, "It is believed that Stone Age men started shaving 100,000 years ago by using clam shells like tweezers and pulling out their beard hair. About 60,000 years ago, man discovered shaving, and started using sharpened obsidian and clam shells to shave their beards".

Yes . . . and no. Best for me? Best for you? Somebody else?

Best quality? Best shave? Prettiest?

There's actually a shaver on the forum who's tried more than one razor and his best is a $5 razor from China.

Best shave: that's a marriage between your face/beard/blade and technique.

There are now a handful of high quality razors available at a high quality price for those interested.

Nicely written comment! For daily driving, you might be a good candidate for the Lite base plate. Half the blade feel and a bit less efficiency.

I shave every day and have for decades. It didn't work for me and I tried really hard to love it including trying a Lite version. I used it exclusively for 4 months then piffed it. Too much blade feel and for all that I did get close shaves but no better than with several of my more comfortable razors.

YMMV

The Blackbird and Vector were the two razors I reached for the most last year (16% of all shaves). They are both very special razors. If I had to pick only one razor from my collection, it would be a very tough choice between the Blackbird and Yates 921. From my stable of 79 razors, Blackland razors accounted for 30% of all shaves during 2024.

I tried a Blackbird based on all the rave reviews, but it didn't work well for me. The quality is outstanding, and I liked how it felt in my hand. I just found the shaving angle to be very particular and never seemed to find the right way to shave with it to get results that didn't cause irritation or knicks. I own and love a stainless steel Vector, and I am very curious about the Sabre. So, based on my experience, I would not call the Blackbird the "best" at all. But those that like it, love it.

Like I said, “YMMV”! It took me about ten shaves to get there. Then it was excellent.

Cool. Unfortunately, while a 30-day return is generous, it didn't give me enough time with my shaving schedule to work through it. And I have over 20 razors I love, so fiddling around trying to make the outlier work wasn't in the cards for me. Like I said, the Vector is one of my favorite razors. YMMV

My precious!
I'm back to using my Blackbird Ti after months with my Lupo 95 OC. I love everything about my titanium BB. I've barely used anything else except these two since I acquired them over a year ago. I'll give the Blackbird the edge over my Lupo for ease of use, weight, build, feel, and efficiency. I have all three baseplates for my BB. Currently, I'm enjoying the standard SB plate. It's a fantastic tool if you get along with it for sure.

Another vote for the Lite for everyday shaving. It was one of those razors I couldn't quite figure out and just decided to stick with it until I could make it work. For me, it took prioritizing zero irritation to figure out the right angle for me. Turns out I'd been scraping (of course).

Once I dialed in using the Lite plate daily it wasn't too much of a stretch to use the standard baseplate. I don't usually need that level of efficiency, though. The standard plate also takes a bit more focus (for me) than I prefer for a week-day shave.

Is it the best? I think it's certainly one of the best if you prioritize efficiency without irritation and don't mind some blade feel. If that's not your preference, there's other really good razors that make different tradeoffs.
