Information from Proraso

Grazzi Marco. I guess something has to be cut out in a line as diverse as Proraso and they're experimenting with some new school high end stuff as well so the bottom loses I guess. I was hoping you could tell us what you would consider the main competitor to Proraso in Italy, particularly on grocery and drugstore shelves. In regards to scents Malizia Uomo Vetyver came to my attention at an Italian Grocery recently and I'd like to hear you opinion on them as well, if you could, as it is a relatively inexpensive brand.

Brett,

Proraso, in the low cost range, has really no competitor at all. Some good brands are Figaro and Prep, but, again, Proraso is simply the best you can find on grocery and drugstore shelves. Please consider my previous post on Proraso, called "Proraso, a great barbershop brand", here is the link: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=162706
Regarding Malizia Uomo, it is a nice, inexpensive fragrance, with many fans here in Italy. Anyhow my favourite low cost perfume is Acqua Classica Borsari Parma, on which I'll write a review as soon as possible.

Excellent post, Marco. I really enjoy the White tub of Proraso. While the green is excellent, I do better without the eucalyptus and camphor. Unfortunately I never got to try the Red, but I'm very content with the White.

Thanks Marco.

Thank you, Randy.
Glad to hear you like the White Proraso soap, which is a terrific performer indeed! By the way, I also asked the Martelli company if they will bring on the market a White Proraso shaving cream, too. Unfortunately no, there isn't any project on this, at least at the moment.

Thanks Marco. Too bad, that would be pretty sweet if Proraso made the White soap into a cream!

Thanks for the info Marco. Now we need to start the e-mail torrent requesting the return of "The Red".

I have only tried the green and love it in both soap and cream form. What were the key differences b/w green and red?

The Green is more pronounced with menthol and has more of a cooling impact on the face. They really differ in scent - both shave great. However, I felt that was a slight more lubrication to the Red - but this could be my memory playing tricks with me since I have not used the Red for some time.

Jim, your answer is 100% correct. The Red Proraso was specifically formulated for the most sensitive skins. Therefore, as you properly indicated, it had a lighter scent and was slightly slicker than the Green. The Red Proraso was, in my opinion, one of the greatest Italian creams ever produced.

I agree. Lovely product.

It also had some wheatgerm in the formula of ingredients, and had excellent skin care. I have enough to last for a while in rotation. But eventually I'd like to be able to buy the Proraso Red again.

Excellent info Marco. I dub thee "Ambassador to Italian Gentlemen’s Shaving Products on B&B"

As for the classic Proraso, I used it again this morning after days of SMN - and to be honest I enjoyed it just as much as its cousin :tongue_sm

In the beginning, from what I was able to gather from the Proraso website, they originally only offered the pre-shave. It think the actual shave cream was introduced a much much later?. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Thank you very much, Antonio.
Regarding SMN and Proraso, they both shave great. SMN is, in my opinion, a slightly "upgraded" version of Proraso. But again, between the two, there isn't a huge difference in quality and performance. Or, if you prefer, both are simply outstanding, top-notch, traditional barbershop products.
And you are correct about the pre-shave. Also, Proraso Pre & Post shave cream, is the item that most gave glory to the company. In the ages beteween the 1930's and the 1960's it was so loved and sought after, that it was described as the "pre barba miracolo", the pre-shave miracle. Still today it has an extremely solid reputation as a powerful pre-shave treatment.

Do you know when the actual Proraso shave cream was introduced?

I'm squeezing the last few drops out of my tube and kicking myself for not using it with a brush. It would've lasted so much longer. It is truly wonderful.
I can buy the green and cream aftershave right off the shelves here in Canada, but I remember that the green is rough on my face.

Shoppers Drug Mart has both the Green and the White in tubes, tubs and pre/post.
