Indulgence of the Night - June 09

For Father's Day, I grilled three dry-aged New York Strip Steaks. Sauteed onions and potato salad were the side dishes. Dessert was Napoleons from Pierre's, a bakery and restaurant here in South Brunswick.

Excellent! The Perdomo Habanos are great cigars as well. In fact, I don't think I have ever smoked a bad Perdomo.

Yes! The Habano Corojo always blows me away (in a good way). I always liken it to being smacked around with a black pepper mill. Love it. I've yet to try a Habano Maduro, but I've heard they're even better than its Corojo counterpart. Is that even possible?!? :w00t:

I'm going to have a Laprhoaig here in a moment... it's been a day. It's going to be hard to fly under the radar from here on out, and it's got me really frightened.

Tonight I smoked a CAO LX2 Toro. This was a great cigar! Very full flavor, perfect burn and ash. Smoke time lasted about an hour and 20 minutes. My Ipod and The Reverend Horton Heat kept me company.

I cooked some of Cat Cora's Crispy Chicken last night and it was really wonderful. I cooked this at 350 for about an hour, along with a couple of ears of corn and we had some real summer, comfort food!

I am going to cook a couple of pizzas on the BGE tonight.

I did a couple of pies tonight that turned out really good. I cut the temp back to 650 and I like that spot better than 700+

The first pie used some pesto as a base, a three cheese blend (mozzarella, Munster, and aged provolone) with a few chunks of feta thrown in. Then I topped it with grilled pineapple and grilled chicken.

The second pie was more traditional with the same three cheese blend and topped with pepperoni and slices of a homemade sausage that I smoked earlier today.

Here is the sausage cooking, along with the pineapple I used on the other pie.

The neighbors were pretty much blown away with the pies.

Dinner at Henry's End (Brooklyn, NY) -- This is a small but superb chef-owned restaurant on Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights. If you live in the area, you must give it a try.

Shared Appetizers: Crab Cakes, Ribs, Shrimp w/ andouille sausage, and more Shrimp in a sweet and spicy "West Indian" sauce.

Wine: Cartlidge & Browne Pinot Noir 2008 (not bad at all).

Main Course: Alaskan Cod in a spicy ginger and green onion glaze, with snow peas and rice w/ corn niblets.

Dessert: Chocoalte Confusion -- part brownie/part souffle with vanilla ice cream and fudge.

After Dinner Cigar: Padron 4000 and a walk on the Promenade overlooking downtown Manhattan.

Scotch : A wee dram of Johnnie Walker Gold with one drop (literally) of water, no ice.

Life was indeed very good tonight!

I pounded out three chicken breast halves and filled them with spinach, sun dried tomatoes, toasted pine nuts, and feta cheese.

I cooked it with a chunk of pecan, along with some corn and roasted beets.

I roasted the beets, on the grill, let them cool a little and tossed them with EVOO and balsamic vinegar. I will definitely do that again!
