What's new

I won a Super Speed

I have been following the sellers auctions for a while. In other auctions they have mentioned selling off the estate of a collector that has died, maybe someone here knows of a collector that has passed recently?

I believe that my razor also comes from that collection. You can rest assured that I will scrutinise the razor when it arrives and if I get any suspicion of foul play at all, both the seller and you here will definatly hear about it. But until I receive the razor, they have every benefit of any doubt. I have had very nice communications with them and they seem like exceptionally good Ebayers to me so far.
Of the 1398 sales they have made on Ebay, not a single person has had grounds for giving them anything but positive feedback, not even a single neutral. That means that not even the worst grumps out there have had any reason to complain at all, at least none that actually have done business with them. This certainly means a lot to me, if it did'nt, Ebay would be totally useless.

If I have any doubt at all, I will photograph it and ask for help here. However I'm quite sure I'll be raving about how great it is and how well it shaves in about a week :)

This particular seller doesn't generally elicit comments regarding the mechanical quality of the razors they sell. There is just a suspicion that some of the mint razors they sell have been replated. That, and some of the items they auction sell for 2-3 times what would normally be accepted. If you were satisfied paying what you did for your razor, that is all that matters

If I get what it says in the item description, a hardly used original SS in pristine condition, I will be very happy with the razor and the price I payed.
If I get an old worn out razor with a new coat of chrome, I'll not be happy at all.

They say the doors open supersmoothly and closes tightly, and that the finish is pristine. I don't see what else could be said about the mechanical quality of a razor without disassembling it.

I think you guys are all on the same page.

Futur, you asked what everyone thought, and it 's kind of a tough position for everyone, because no one wants to make you (the buyer) feel bad before you even get your razor.

I think people just want you to know how they feel so they can protect you and make sure that you are getting what you really want.

I don't think anyone is trying to demean anyone else, but rather just inform you of a history on this very board. Here is a post from earlier this month...

"The seller was cedarfurniture. More interesting is that they took the listing down as soon as I posted my questions here on the forum. As to the replating, I have been suspicious of this myself. How can one person find so many examples of pristine Gillette razors, when within our collective, with a membership of 15,000 plus, we don't? In any given week they have as many razors listed for sale as our entire membership posts as acquisitions in the same time period. The photos are great, but we have some members that are professional photographers and can't get photos to look as "new" as those, and I am sure their technique is as good as this sellers. Look at some of mod Jim's pictures. His stuff looks age appropriate though."

I truly hope that the razor you bought is what you were looking for, and I'm sure everyone else on this board thinks the same. We wouldn't be true gentlemen however if we omitted information that might help you out of fear of hurting your feelings.

Thanks.

I'm very grateful for the information I have gotten here, it has not been my intention to express anything else :) Thank you very much gentlemen!!!

I'm sorry if I got defensive, I guess I got a bit defensive on the sellers behalf, because they have treeted me so very well so far. I have'nt even received the razor yet, so really I have nothing to be defensive about concerning it. Also, if it's not what they described, I have a full money back guarrantee :) I have little doubt the seller is honorable when it comes to money, they even refunded me almost $ 5 today, completely on their own accord, as the shipping was less than expected. No other Ebayer has ever done that before, even if the package showed the shipping to be way less than demanded.

I will certainly do a much closer inspection of the razor because of this information and the possible doubt it has raised. Since I'm a newbee, I'll ask for and hopefully get help deciding what it truly is if need be. I also have equipment for extreme macro pfotography if needed :)

Still, I payed $34 for it, I don't know what replating costs, but I find it hard to think that anybody could accuire, completely refurb and sell a razor for that kind of money and make a profit of it. If what the buyers receive does not look like the pictures, they would certainly have gotten a neutral or negative remark by now.

Btw. My first and favourite hobby is photography. I can say with great confidence that any pro photographer that could not match or exceed the quality of this sellers pictures, is surely a starving photographer. With a simple product photography tent and two lightsources plus a DSLR with a macrolens, it's no problem at all. I could very easily do it.

Looks like a beautiful razor and I'd love to be on the receiving end of that. It's also very probable if they're selling it for someone who was a serious collector, that it would be in absolute pristine condition.

I bought a 40' gold tech for 20 bucks at an antique store that was in nearly perfect condition but the box was just disintigrating around it. I pitched the box and kept the razor for my collection, easy explaination for why it has no case and is still in great shape..

Nice find!!! Let us know what your first shave is like.

My razor has arrived today. I am totally and utterly satisfied, this is a very very beautiful razor in as new condition. It looks just as good in person as it did in the photos. It has just a couple of very very tiny scatches on the silo doors that only proves it has not been tampered with or replated.
I'm also very happy with the high quality feel of the razor, those that have spoken highly of the superspeeds definatly tells the truth :) I almost can't wait to see if it shaves as good as people say :) Unfortuantly my DE89 with a corked 7 O'Clock did such a fine job this morning that there is not enough stubble for a decent shave yet :)

The seller, cedarfurnitureman, gets my very warmest recommendations. They have been truly wonderful to deal with and the service I have received has been above and beyond all expectations.

Congratulations. I'm glad it worked out for you. I have been looking for that same razor and I'd like to find one in similar condition.

Let us know if it shaves as good as it looks. I bet it does.

Excellent buy! I went with a $20 SS(65) as my first razor. I'm quite taken with the razor in general. Mine is not in nearly as good of condition and seeing those pics surely made me wish I'd spent the extra $15. :001_tt1:

Even though the razor was $6 more than my EJ DE89, I still feel that it was well worth the money. It sure is a joy to have one in such good condition. But if it shaves as well as I think it will, I might look for one that looks more used to use in my rotation, this one is just to pretty to use dayly. So hold on to the one you have ericesque :)

Mirrorimij, I recommend that you look in on the auctions of cedarfurnitureman on Ebay now and then, they allways have several mouthwatering razors for sale. I'm sure you'll find the perfect razor for you soon.

I had my first shave with the SS this morning. I put a corked 7 O'Clock in it and lathered up with Mama Bears Awakenings. I got a CCS with one pass plus a little touchup under the chin. I'm spoiled rotten with the Futur and DE89, so I can't say it was my best shave ever, but I enjoyed it and it did a fine job.
It's a very smooth and forgiving razor to use, the shave reminded me a lot of the Feather Popular. That is maybe not so strange, as it's design seems to be strongly influenced by the SS :)

SuperSpeeds don't give me the closest shaves, but they are the most comfortable. I actually prefer a CCS over a BBS.
