I really hate it when

I would say I disagree to most of the comments. If its up to the buyer than we are all vultures! I tend to buy at yard sales, maybe I am the last honest a-hole but... If I spy a razor and the say a dollar I will tell them no and give them the value and tell them what I will pay. I have yet to pick one up for a unfair amount. I DO give them the price it is worth in the condition its in... meaning if I go home and wash and buff and polish its worth more. If all we want to do is rob unsuspecting buyers then this forum is more like a thieves guild and less like a gentlemens forum. Just my thoughts!

You're kidding right? You might want to refresh yourself on the meaning of free market economics. What is accomplished by your activity? The seller won't even remember your name 5 minutes after the transaction is over with. A yard sale was the seller's chosen venue to rid himself/herself of unwanted merchandise perceived to be worth very modest sums. So instead of paying the asked for price of $1.00 you insisted that they take $10.00 which was your interpretation of actual value. If the seller was happy with $1.00 to begin with, where is the unfairness in this transaction? (Dollar amounts used are for illustration purposes only)
If this somehow improves your self esteem, go for it. Just realize that this is not the expected or normal response. Giving the seller their asking price is neither ungentlemanly conduct nor is it exhibiting behavior associated with a thief.

When our country chose free market economic principals most of the people had a different set values so I think we have to factor that into the meaning. I didn't say I pay them 10 and it really has nothing to do with self esteem. Most people would, I think, call it honesty. I know X is worth $10 cleaned up and polished etc. They ask a dollar, I will usually offer them 2-3 after explaining its worth condition etc. If it doen't clean up as nice, well I still get 6-7 out of it. Anyway I choose to operate the way I do and it has always come back in kind. It just suprises me that folks that will talk of getting ripped by the likes of Gillette, then turn around and proudly proclaim how they aquired a $100 razor for $10 becuase the poor shmuck didn't know what he had.

It's up to the seller to know what they have, especially on Ebay. I think it's ridiculous that someone would advise a seller that they are selling something too cheap. A little old lady at an estate sale, maybe. On the B/S/T, definitely. On Ebay, no way.

Who's setting the value of the razor? Phillip Krumholz? Someone at this forum? Your wife's hairdresser? Just because one person thinks they got got a $100 razor for $10 doesn't mean somebody else will. Another buyer may look at that same razor and think it's only worth $5. The "worth" of vintage razors is highly subjective -- there are no price guides or blue books to determine value.

Why, just the other day I told the chap at Nordstroms that the cuff links they were selling for $50.00 were fetching twice that amount over at Saks, and suggested he charge me accordingly.

Cnnc97 had it about right as concerns me. I wasn't speaking specifically to ebay, just in general. In 6 years I've only bought 4 things off ebay as I prefer to buy ftf and locally as much as possible. I also only tend to do BIN as I don't like the whole bidding process. We all operate on our own principles. That said I apologize to any offends!
