I have switched - I found "it" *****

You can put lather on a pig, but it's still a... uhm... err.... uhh... :dots:

Have you tried lather plus an electric yourself before making that judgment?

Back when I first switched over to wetshaving I had my soap (Tabac) and a badger brush before my DE razor had been delivered. So, I lathered up, and had a shave with the Panasonic. And I was pretty impressed with the results! Previoulsy I had simply been using the electric with water/shaving in the shower. But when I lathered, it really smoothed things out.

I'll stick to my straights, but an electric with quality lather may not be so crazy after all...

just sayin'

"I have been using this shaver for some time now. I used a straight razor before this and had tried the jump to electric razors before with no success. With the money back guarantee from Panasonic, I decided to give this a try and it's now the only shaver I use. The closeness is makes for a very soft feeling face, and doesn't irritate my skin, which was my previous complaint for electric razors.
It's easy to maintain. The cleaning cartridge does a great job, and the razor tells you when its time to get it cleaned -which is my favorite feature.
The charger easily adapts for travel. The shaver also came with a molded leather travel case. This is great since I travel a lot. There is even a setting to have the razor self clean with regular liquid soap, for when you are traveling and cannot bring the charging station with you.
The trimmer works fine, although it's a little bit hard to be precise when it's so hard to see. Something easily fixed by using a second mirror at an angle.
The chrome on the center button peeled a little bit for me but not enough to worry about, as it doesn't effect the shaver's performance.
It takes a little bit longer to shave with this electric shaver, and sometimes you have to turn it while shaving to shave the closest, but thats the cost of an ultra protective outer foil with no sharp edges. This means individual hairs don't catch, so you don't get the feeling of having them ripped out, unlike some other brands of electric shavers."

I thought for a second that the review was from our very own Sluggo! But this reviewer is from Portland, adn I don't think Sluggo hails from there...

The best electric shaver I ever tried was $9.99 at walgreens. It was meant to be tossed when the blades got dull or the foil worn. When I looked for a new one a year or so later, which was twice as long as it was expected to last, they were no longer sold.

The new generation of Brauns and Panasonics are great shavers, compared to the old Norelcos of my youth, but I still see few reasons to recommend them over a nice straight. It is cool to be able to shave at stoplights and such while driving, and it is nice to have your shaving gear in carry-on, but REALLY!!! Electric? For everyday use? AUGHHH! Moving parts! Wear/tear! Replacement cost! And still, nothing beats a straight for the perfect shave, though these newfangled facial lawnmowers are not far behind a DE.

I would miss the elemental simplicity of a proper blade shave. But I am glad you are happy with your new gadget.

It seems that this thread has come back alive in the last few days . . . it sounds like maybe not everyone took the time to read through all hundred-and-something replies in this thread?

Good for you, but it was all an April Fool's joke . . . just Jim's way of pulling our leg. (Check the date stamps.)

Thanks, yes I read the entire thread, and I get the gist of it. I'm just saying that *perhaps* a well lathered shave with a quality electric may not be all that bad....
