How aggressive is the Merkur Progress on the highest setting?

I used a Tek as a daily driver for years, but it always gave me irritation on my neck as you describe.

Since then I’ve cycled through quite a few razors, but I’ve landed on a BB Ti. If I want extreme aggression, I have a DScosmetics Z.0 Ti (R41 clone, but more aggressive and efficient). The Tek is a fun novelty, but it’s too blade forward for a comfortable shave daily for most users including me (even though I did use it daily for a long time). A Rex Ambassador or a HLS Taiga are also both pretty blade forward, but they’re adjustable so you can dial in your preferred setting. The Progress is a fantastic razor, and it’s got some aggression, but it’s still not as much as I once preferred.

People say that it’s true talent that can get a good shave out of a mild razor, but apparently that’s not me. I’m never happy with a mild razor, never, but too much aggression isn’t good either. I can get DFS+ or BBS- from my BB with a 2.5 pass shave and without any drama, and that’s good enough for me.

When you get to the stop, squeeze the TopCap and BasePlate together and you will be able to continue to turn the handle.
You have now over-clocked it.
That's what you do to start the disassembly process on the Futur. Not sure, but I think the shaves would just start to get rougher and more risky. Of course, if you have a stainless steel beard, I guess you might have to go past 6! Also, my VDH Futur clone is not as aggressive as my Futur's, but I do like the lighter feel to the razor and seems a little more nimble.

My Yaqi Final cut goes to 9.5 ..I never even dared ventured there
Even on settings 6-7 its far more agressive for me than a Muhle r41

Yes, indeed!

All Futur imitations are milder. There is more than one Chinese company manufacturing them. As for the Ming Shi 2000s it has smaller gaps compared to the Futur, but also has less clamping, which makes it milder.

I use my Ming Shi's only @6, but the Futur only @5.
The Clones, at least the one I have, is much easier to disassemble for thorough cleaning, due to the lower spring tension. The Merkur spring seems much stronger and may even last longer than the spring in the clone.

Lockback

Dull yet interesting
I haven't shaved with one, let alone on its highest setting.
But rumor has it that it resembles this ...
