You already have nice gear. Try a DOC/SLOC for a change of pace. There are a couple stainless or other exotic material models floating around.
Bonjour/Hi from a fellow Quebecois shavercurious what samples you got from Henri et Victoria, I got their cognac and Cuban soap and balm when I made the switch last year, love the scent and the balm, but I always get a little frag burn When using the soap, curious to try their unscented soap.
I have used the cognac and Cuban aftershave balm with several other soaps and didn't have the issue, and the irritation I felt was always while the soap was on my face. Because of that experience I started using unscented shave soaps and just fragranced aftershaves, but recently I've been exploring scented soaps again without issue, but I have had skin reactions from using overly scented laundry detergent before so I guess my skin is particularly sensitive to certain fragrances.View attachment 2006463
Hi. I'm (currently) working my way through samples of the following Henri et Victoria shaving soaps; Duc de Santal, Kraken, Cognac and Cuban Cigars.
- The Duc de Santal, to me at least, is very, very subtle. Since I already have and like Taylot of Old Bond Street (TOBS) Sandlewood soap and it has sentimental for me as it reminds me of dad shaving with it, I'll stick to TOBS.
- The Cognac and Cuban Cigars is by far, my favourite and will definitely buy (the tiple Milled version) for fall and winter usage.
- The Kraken, to me at least, has a very light scent, not overpowering and I'm considering it for spring and summer time use.
No issues for me with any of the Henri et Victoria shaving soaps in terms of burn/irritation etc. and I do have sentive skin so, I'm wondering if you've tried the soap alone then only used a sensitive skin moisturizer rather then an after-shave (balm as you mnetioned) or cologne etc.?
FYI... On the topic of sensitive skin, since I'm a daily shaver, every once in a while I'll use TOBS Jermyn Street Shaving Cream for Sensitive Skin on days when my skin is irritated for various reasons. Also, since I don't use it often, I like tht it comes in a a small (travel size) 75g tin. Great for travling with. I wish more brands offered smaller (travel) sized containers.
I have not bought unscented soap of any kind as I enjoy having a slight, non-overpowering aroma when shaving.
Good luck!
I also purchased samples of the three mentioned soap fragrances in Shave Splash and out of all three, the Cognac and Cuban Cigars is by far my favorite. No problems with skin irritation with any of them.I have used the cognac and Cuban aftershave balm with several other soaps and didn't have the issue, and the irritation I felt was always while the soap was on my face. Because of that experience I started using unscented shave soaps and just fragranced aftershaves, but recently I've been exploring scented soaps again without issue, but I have had skin reactions from using overly scented laundry detergent before so I guess my skin is particularly sensitive to certain fragrances.
I haven't heard anyone else complain about fragrance burn from H&Vic soaps though, so maybe I just had a batch that was a little overscented or something. I honestly still have some of the cognac and Cuban balm it's a delight especially in the winter

Funny you should mention them as I'm actually looking into their products. Kinda wish their website was more robust in terms of filtering, searching etc. Thanks!thanks for the rec! I have been looking for a decent face cream to use for days when I don't shave as well so may give this a go.
I tend to switch up between aftershave splashes and balms/ lotion depending on the weather. For warmer spring summer times I prefer splashes as they still help soothe the skin but dry quickly. For fall/winter I generally prefer a balm to get a little more protection from the elements.
I didn't see anyone suggest it yet, but I would highly recommend checking out the razorock soaps and splash aftershaves from italianbarber.com these guys are Canadian based as well and for price vs quality I think they have the best value out there, you can get a soap and matching splash for under 30 CAD and the quality honestly rivals some stuff I've paid 3-4 times more for the price for.. They also have tons of different scents and an awesome line of Canadian made stainless steel razors.
Yes the navigation on the mobile version of the site kinda sucks, it's a little easier to use the desktop version.Funny you should mention them as I'm actually looking into their products. Kinda wish their website was more robust in terms of filtering, searching etc. Thanks!
