Henson ++ Two week Shaveathon

Also, I will be headed to The Great White North for the next few days, so this thread will be on hiatus for a bit. My shaves will be Bic Metal and Proraso Blue until I get back. Both very serviceable!

Marco

B&B's Man in Italy
Today was the battle of RR Regs vs Supers. I am glad I did this experiment. Is was quite enlightening. While both soaps gave me a great shave, the Super Don @Marco was a click slicker. This could be felt in the tougher razorback hair. Also it had less sensory feedback and had a higher pitch in sound.

The same razor with the same blade just felt sharper. Somewhat subtle, but noticeable is real time and space. Mustache, chin and ATG were just easier.

Enjoy your new Italian made soaps, Sir!

We interrupt this weeks scheduled programming for a special announcement.

After my week of Great White North Expedition, I returned with a few days grown. The PAA Stainless Ascension made short work of it. It was paired with the PAA CK6 Doppleganger. Good soap. It will be faced off with the UWB Stirling tomorrow.

Returning to the Henson for the face off.

OMG, which Doppleganger? I'm hooked on Doppleganger Grey and his splash, an Aventus homage, I believe. CK6 is an excellent base.

Interesting to hear your Plague Doctor/Don Marco comparison. I never used them together or even a day apart, so my perception was not as nuanced as yours. But ... I'm glad you like Don Marco. It is, hands down, my favorite summer soap. I haven't used it in a while, I'm going to give it another month to warm up so I really enjoy it. :)

I think I sent you some TFS Mastro Miche Annuendo, which I also love. I'd be curious how you think that compares to Plague Doctor. I suspect they are almost identical ingredient lists (can't remember now), they both perform well, and both have very light, but pleasant scents. If you prefer soaps with light scents that don't linger too long, I think Plague Doctor and Annuendo are right up your alley. Annuendo is so soft, but I find the scent intoxicating.

Thanks for keeping this thread up, I always like to read others' impressions of stuff I like.

It was the grey one. Stay tuned for a face off! Thank you for all the soaps. It lets me fine tune my criteria for what I am looking for.

Awesome shave today and amazing shave off. Stirling UWB and PAA Doppelgänger (grey in MAC OS font). The CK-6 base is fab. PAA had the dominant hand, so it was at a slight advantage. But, it was almost neck and neck. Doppelgänger was ever so slightly slicker and it had a higher pitch. This was most apparent in the ATG pass. PAA was just easier. Both soaps are really great.

It was so much fun, I will repeat the test tomorrow with UWB in the dominant hand.

I see some marks on razor. What are those ? Rust from blade ?

Another fantastic shave. With the Stirling on the dominant hand side, it caught up a smidge. Bit CK-6 once again was slightly smoother. Higher pitched sound as well. I findit really odd that a soap can make such a difference in sound. With a price and volume difference, the juice may not be worth the squeeze, but if one chases BBS, it might be. The comfort difference was mostly in the ATG pass.

Could be. What blade were you using that time? Some will go a week but have some rust marks, some will not. My Gillette Spoilers never discolor. I have not used the Dorco enough to really notice, I don’t pay attention. Stupid of me to ask which Doppelgänger, I sent it! I love that soap. The only reason I included it is I also have S.V. Opuntia, which is similar. The PAA A/S for Grey is one of only two my wife ever comments on, so I hung on to it. If you reload the soap, definitely get the splash.

Another fantastic shave today. It was between Stirling UWB and RR Don Marco (Super Formula). To be honest it was neck and neck, too close to call. At some points I thought Don Marco was higher pitched or UWB was a bit richer, but I don’t know. It could be scent (invigorating bergamont) and brush differences playing tricks on me.

Both are fantastic.

The hierarchy of the tests so far:

CK-6 > Striling UWB ~= RR Super > RR Regular.

It came with the what looked to be tea stains. They don’t seem to affect anything, so I don’t want to use an abrasive to scrub them off.

Scent of Doppelgänger is definitely very choice.

If you like it, it's $4 off for the set at PAA site. Wife LOVES the splash. She only likes (comments on) two of my splashes, this is one of them.

After typing the above hierarchy, I noticed a red patch on the RR side of my neck. It was a dodgy pass, but it seems the Stirling may have slightly better residual slickness (which may go in line with the perceived richness advantage). Both are probably roughly equivalent with correct lathering technique.
