Henson AL13+ finish Vs. Razorock shave soap... really?

This razor has been used 4 times, and the only chemicals it has come into contact with are water, Razorock Irish Countryside shave soap, and Dawn (original) dish soap. I hasn't been scrubbed/brushed, only wiped down with a microfiber cloth after soaking overnight in a water/Dawn solution.

Has anyone experienced this with their Henson? I've contacted the manufacturer to see whether they'll exchange it for a non-defective plate. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Not a chemist but perhaps, the long soaking period in water combined with low level (acidic-hess) chemicals from Dawn Dish Soap and if its present, the colorine in the tap water caused it.

Sorry, messed up my last posting... ran out of time to correct....

Not a chemist but perhaps, the long soaking period in water combined with low level (acidic-ness) chemicals from Dawn Dish Soap and if its present, maybe the colorine in the tap water, may have contributed to/caused it.

Although I don't have an Aluminium razor, my sterilization routine is a good rinse of the razor (with blade) slightly loosened to allow the water to get around all sides followed by a quick soak (just the razor head and blade) in Rubbing (Isopropyl) Alcohol to both sterialize the razor and blade as well as displace the water so it evaporates quickly.

I use a small mason jar to store a small amount of the alcohol as all my razors fit/stand perfectly the the jar and don't tip (see picture).

I have heard this happening with hensons but I typically wash mine and let it dry in the open air everytime I use it. I have scrubbed it down with dawn soap once. Ive used razorock soap before(blue barbershop) but never had anything happen to it. I would never leave a razor soaking overnight though. I think hard water can have a negative effect on the anodization. Razor emporium does not recommend leaving any razor soaking in water period. Im no scientist either but that guy seems to know his razors. Water and metal are not friends. Which is why some of my stainless steel kitchen utensils have small rust marks on them unfortunately.

I'm not going to discount anything out of hand, but I wonder why the discoloration affects a small area when the entire baseplate was submerged. Also, here's my AL13++ after being soaked overnight in Dawn + tap water more than a dozen times... and no damage to the finish. Basically, I'm scratching my head to come up with an explanation other than poor anodization of the black Henson.

Soapy water is alkaline. Alkaline solutions can attack the aluminum oxide layer formed through anodizing. I would not recommend soaking aluminum, or really any kind of razor, overnight in soapy water or any other solution. The part might still be defective - I have no idea - but I'd consider changing this part of your routine as the risks outweigh any benefit.
