What's new

Help identifying an EverReady SE razor I acquired.

That's called the 1924 because it wasn't given a formal model name by ER, and 1924 is the first year they started showing up, or that was the year the patent was applied for, I can't remember which.

I can never remember which either and I'd lost my bookmark to the patent doc, so I went and did a little digging and the answer, strangely enough, is both. US1488907 was originaly filed by Julius Bueno de Mesquita on December 18, 1922 and was issued on April 1, 1924. Then on August 30, 1924 he filed US1540731, which was issued on June 2, 1925, with almost the exact same design. The differences between the two are ones we've seen in the examples of 1924-style razors that we've looked at before -- mostly in the fitting on the bottom of the head that takes the handle and the way it connects to the razor.

What's more interesting, I think, is that de Mesquita seems to have been working on this design for a long time before hooking up with ASR. On December 3, 1909 he filed US1135775, which appears to have been originally filed in England on June 21 of that same year, with a strikingly similar design. I don't know if his original design was ever manufactured and sold by anyone. It'd be cool to turn one up...

Thats interesting...quite a few differences between the 2 '24's
Finding one of those early open comb razors would really be cool!!
Sure takes a while to get a patent approved.....

Very interesting Porter, I don't believe I've ever actually seen the patent number for this razor. I'm pretty sure none were ever made with the number stamped on it, they all seem to just say patent applied for.

I was wondering about the Patent Applied for stampings on the '24's...were they made before the patent approval and not changed after the approval?
