What's new

Goodfellas Smile Bayonetta

Send an email, but I'm sorry...bayonetta was conceived and designed in brass to have low production costs, I doubt they can make a steel version...also knowing the mechanical workshop that produces them

It's always worth a shot, I have nothing to lose. I know by partnering with Minuterie Metalliche Rocchetti they were able to offer a stainless steel Syntesi. I was hoping perhaps they could do the same with the Bayonetta, offer a SS version for a higher price but you seem to know more than I do about their production.

I’ve been eyeing the Bayonetta for some time now and have followed this thread with interest.

I’m a big fan of brass razors, my first one being a DSC V92. I’ve read a lot of positive posts about how good the Bayonetta is and finally made the order today.

I also added a tub of TFS soap to my order, it is cheap and I think that I might enjoy this soap.

I’m looking forward to share my experience with the Bayonetta with all of you.

My very own Bayonetta arrived a few days ago and my first impression was very good. It comes in a plain cardboard box packed in paper, but packaging isn't really the important thing here. It's a heavy razor as can be expected from a solid brass tool. The workmanship is spot on, I didn't see any machining marks and even the he inside of the cap is nicely done. I was considering polishing the razor with Dursol Shine, having seen the beautiful razors in this thread, but decided against it for the time being. Maybe this is an idea I will revisit in the future.

I took the Bayonetta for a shave today and loaded a BIC Astor blade. I didn't have any alignment issues, but the cap posts are indeed shorter and thinner than in other razors. I anyway load all my blades, no matter which razor I use with the cap upside down on a non-slip surface, place the plate on top of the blade and then screw the handle on. I just feel a bit safer not having the cap and blade in the palm of my hand while trying to place the plate and screwing on the handle. That all worked very well, and the blade was aligned perfectly. There's also no blade tap overhang to the sides.

I tend to go a bit shallow when trying out a new razor and that worked rather well with the Bayonetta as well. I think it has a wider blade angle window and a steeper angle can also be accommodated. The Bayonetta has some blade feel to me, but not overly so. Maybe close to the Rocca.

It provided a very good first shave, which could have been better with a fresh blade and if I would be more familiar with it. A first shave is never a good indicator of how good a razor will be. Having said that, the Bayonetta is indeed an exceptional razor that is CNC machined from brass and sold at a price of a bit over USD40. This is pure value for money.

I did feel the drag from the sand blasting, but it honestly didn't bother me very much. It's there, but I didn't feel that it negatively affected the razor's performance, and it's anyway something that will either go away with time or whenever the razor is polished.

There's not much to criticize about this razor. The Bayonetta is a great razor for the money asked. I like its weight - I tend to favor heavier razors. I love how it keeps the heat - it's nice to hold a warm razor in your hand. And I like how it shaves. If I would have to compare the Bayonetta with my other pure brass razor the DSC V92, I would say that the V92 has way more blade feel and is a tad more aggressive than the Bayonetta. But that doesn't mean that I would categorize the Bayonetta as being a mild razor. The Bayonetta is for me a medium aggressive razor comparable to the Mühle Rocca...and maybe the Yates 921 with a H plate.

Of course, I'll have to shave a few more times with the Bayonetta to form a solid opinion about it, but the first shave was already very good. I'm certain that the next shaves will only get better.

P.S.: Strong Buy Recommendation. 😉

Any drag (if any) will be gone once Dursol Shine has been used. Once polished you can easily bring back the shine by drowning the razor for an hour in plain ketchup. I've tried it, it works like a charm on any ( non coated) brass and bronze razor.

Ever so true. The predominant reason I decided to let go my DSC V95 shortly after it arrived was the uptick in blade feel compared to the Bayonetta without being more efficient than the Bayonetta. So the DSC V95 felt redundant...
I like the Bayonetta way better.

Agreed.

Enjoy your new razor to the fullest! 😀🍻

I too received mine a few days ago and had the first shave soon after and I gotta say, not a big fan. I don't know what it is but I just dislike the feel of the razor. Don't mean to knock the razor but I truly got what I paid for. We'll see how it goes the next few shaves but the Bayonetta is going against some heavy hitters in my den.

I was inspired to get the Bayonetta by the many positive posts in this thread and of course by the photos and review you have posted in your journal. I do like how yours turned out after you polished it and I'll probably will do the same, especially since I have a tube of Dursol Shine in the drawer. I might as well just use it.

I did polish the V92 with Dursol Shine, but that golden shine lasted maybe three days. Now, I just leave it be and let a patina develop. I'll keep the Bayonetta in its original "form" for the time being just to experience it how it behaves in its "unadulterated" state.

Danke Guido, ich bin sicher ich werde sehr viel Freude mit diesem Hobel haben.

Don't give up just yet. Sometimes new razors we try are blade dependent and can be quite finicky and only work with a very narrow selection of blades.

Time to sample as many different blades as possible until you find the right match. Some razors by experience took me about half a dozen tries before finding the right one. Good luck!

After shining, you can use Renaissance Wax to preserve the shine, it works quite well. Only downside is that the stuff can be expensive.

Yeah that's the plan. Tried it with the Wizamets last night. The perma sharps and Feathers are next.
