Gillette Spoilers

Oh wow... the Schick Platinum (manufactured in Holland... ;-) in the Feather portable shaved like a dream. A lot of modern blades don't match this shaving experience!

Well, it's actually been three weeks with the spoiler. I keep a razor at the GFs, one in the dopp, one in the den (for evening shaving) and another in the bath (for morning shaves). They're all slims.

One of these razors has had the same blade in it for eight shaves, and the shaves are still very close and comfortable, though I can tell that there's more resistance than at first. Another razor (the dopp) has had the same blade in it for three shaves, and they were all very close and comfortable. The other two razors have had two shaves each on the blade, and they're shaving like new (as expected). All shaves were 2 passes with a third pass to touch up. Altogether, the blades have been very consistent.

The value proposition for these has always been articulated as one based on smoothness and longevity... especially longevity. Given the price of them (and that they're not made anymore), they had better last a long time, and they do. Normally, I don't use a blade more than three times, as I have plenty of excellent current-production blades and prefer not to push them. Ten cents a shave is pretty much all I ask of a blade. The spoilers do give that value, with excellent sharpness and comfort.

I gotta say, though, it's a bit strange to me to be using the same blade for eight shaves. I may push this one a little further, just for grins and giggles.

The Super Stainless is smooth AND sharp! If anybody has ever used Super Blue's you know that they are pretty bloody sharp but not smooth. Although I hate to say it, because I want them all to myself, but if you see them BUY! BUY! BUY!

These are the only blades I can get more than 2 shaves from...

Technology lost! Oh the humanity!

I was going to post a thread about the Spoilers since I have 15 of them coming with a Fatboy from ebay. I guess I will be trying them, I wasn't sure if they were any good until I found this thread.

There is a 5 pack and a 10 pack and they are still in the packages, sounds like quite the little bonus. Hopefully the Fatboy cleans up OK, it's hard to tell the condition from the one crappy pic, looks pretty crusty. As long as it's usable I should do ok on the deal, it was only $15 shipped and includes a G-bar as well.

The Spoilers alone could bring $15. Nice score.

Did you past 8 with the Spoiler? I'm currently on 6 and all have been fantastic.

Pushed it out to ten and then retired the blade. I was getting some increased resistance in shaves 9 and 10, but was still getting okay (that is comfortable and close) shaves. I think that 8 shaves is probably the end-point for me, for these blades. I don't care for resistance (as it tends to make me subconsciously apply more pressure than I should), and I have no shortage of blades to cause me to force them any further.

No question, it's a great blade, but after these I went on to shave with the old NOS metal-dispenser platinum plus blades (just finished that rotation), and those are perhaps the most awesome blades I've ever tried. If I had nothing to shave with but spoilers and the old platinum plus blades, I'd be a very happy man.
