Fine American Blend???

I'm new to the Fine American Blend, and I'm wildly impressed with how good it smells. I find it to be classy and "classic" but not "old". I do think that a man with some years on him pulls it off better than a young lad would, though. I had read that it was inspired by Rive Gauche, but it's nice to see a real-user confirmation. I'm not much of a cologne guy, but I am strongly considering picking up some of the RG.
If you can find the original go for that, the new one is not bad, but as stated does not match the Fine AB if you are layering fragrances

was a take on a barbershop frag and the old Barbasol foam in the Red and Blue can was the inspiration including that Metallic Ozone smell of the propellant. It was very nicely done and the Fine American Blend uses those fragrance notes and it dead on in my opinion with the add of the menthol. The Newer Packaging

is sharper and not close in my opinion, however there is no admission of a re-formulation it clearly is. There are reasonably close, but does not match Fine AB anymore. It is not as smooth and creamy, nor long lasting. If you are looking for a match to Fine AB Search out the Aluminum Can version, you will be very happy

Thank you for this. When you say "Aluminum Can", you mean the top pic, right?

Great AZ thread. I didn't realize some of those shops in Tucson carried wet shave products. Thanks for that.

Ok, weird thing this morning. I'm sitting at the table drinking my coffee, etc. and I keep catching a whiff of something that reminds me of American Blend. After a bit, I get curious and do some investigating and figured out what it was. My mom had brought over a grocery bag with some vegetables in it. And... it was celery. Never thought of it before, but there is something in AB that has a similarity to celery. At least there was to my nose this morning.

Well it is not much and very few and far between and you have to hunt for it, more of the new trendy Barbershops are trying but Crescent is about it. I did enjoy your honing Videos

I would love to try the RR AB but Joe and team over at IB have been out of stock on this item for months. I was told that they would be back in stock by end of June. HA!
Just this minute Joe from IB tweeted that American Barber after shave splash is in stock again.

I tried the AB soap and asl a few years ago.
The performance was all there, but I didn't like the scent at all.

I traded it, plus a few other goods, for a FINE Badger brush, and never looked back.

I'd like to add some other Fine flavors to my den, but AB won't cross the threshold ever again.

I've been wanting to try AB for a while. I got an email from IB that Mudder Focker AS was back in stock so I grabbed that and some AB AS too. Unfortunately IB didn't have the AB soap in stock so I had to go to the jungle river site to get the soap. Soon I'll be able to see if AB smells anything like YSL Rive Gauche, which I really like.

I think it's well within the ballpark.

I just received the aluminum can of Rive Gauche ( thanks AlphaFrank75 for the Fragrance Shop link). Great stuff! I'd say it's about 85% similar to Fine AB. The AB has a more staunch note... I think it's the anise. The RG is a bit more rounded with a slight more powdery scent. I'm splitting hairs but that's how I see it.

If you like Fine American Blend, I don't think you'll find a better EDT pairing.

Another Rive Gauche vote here! I think Fine nailed it!
I see on another thread that Fine has raised the price on AB, and there are a lot of complaints.

Makes me wonder: Does Stirling have a Rive Gauche clone that would be good substitute for AB? I love the Stirling splash formulation...great skin treatment! (AB is pretty basic, ingredient-wise, with no beneficial ingredients) And Rod and Mandy have a real knack with fragrance, so perhaps a Rive Gauche-esque fragrance is in the works, if not there already. Just sayin'...

On my last order from Stirling(a month or two ago) I asked if they had a version of Rive Gauche. They said as of now they do not, but they may be looking into it in the future. I'm with you in that I don't think Fine's stuff is worth the price increase, so I'm really hoping Stirling comes out with a version of it. I'm a huge fan of the scent of American Blend.

I like Fine American Blend ok. Too me it smells too cologne like and not like an old school barbershop splash. Old school barbershop splash smell to me would be something powdery or musky like Clubman, Floid Vigoroso, Floid Blue, Floid Amber or Stirling Barbershop.
