What's new

Finally added another revolver

Been mulling over buying a new revolver for some time now. I really like the Model 19 Carry Comp and finally decided to get one. Picked it up and hopefully Tomorow will get some range time with it. The only disappointment was that the wooden grips were ill fitting. Not really an issue since I switched to the rubber grips.

Nice revolver, you'll love it! I used to have an M19, foolishly sold it, eventually replaced it with an M66 ( the SS version of the M19). I have several S&W revolvers, .22 LR, .38 spl., .357 mag., .41 mag., .44 mag. and .45 LC. Love them all.

Good call. I carried a K frame S&W for many years. Totally reliable. Sold it (who knew?) but was quite fortunate and able to replace it with a 1st generation Model 66. Don’t think it was ever shot. Rest assured this one will not ever leave the ranch.

Sweet blaster! If you load it with .357, you'll appreciate the rubber grips.

I was just out with a half dozen friends at the range yesterday and I brought a Ruger GP-100 4" and an SP-101 2.5" 5-shot and we all shot .357 out of both (125 gr JSP). The GP-100 we could shoot all day. The SP-101, nobody asked to shoot more than one cylinder. Yours should come out somewhere in the middle of those two in terms of shootability.

Outstanding defensive carry piece. Like most, I have more semi-autos, but revolvers are perfectly fine defensive guns. Shame the younger set doesn't seem to have any interest in them. Although my son loves all our revolvers.

I agree. My favorite carry revolver, hands down, is a police surplus French railway police Ruger SP-101 in .38 special. In other words it's cylinder is shorter than the .357 version, it can only shoot .38 spl. My understanding is they don't make that frame/cylinder combo any longer, they are all .357 which makes sense.

It has a 3" barrel, and Manhurin rubber grips which are the best I've ever felt. Rugers are fairly easy to work on and I did a trigger job on this, shims and all, myself. It's a great little CCW gun.

Those of us who still like carrying wheelguns, especially in .38 spl, are pretty much dinosaurs, many premium loads have been discontinued. I usually carry Remington Golden Saber 125 gr +P JHP in this gun. Used to be Federal HST 130 gr but that was discontinued. :cursing:

Yeah. I like the way the wood grips look, but you are right; they are punishing. I shot a few cylinders and quickly switched to the rubber grips.

@Acmemfg Well, your photo got me over to eBay. I had my dad's old Ruger Security Six in the safe, rarely fired but my son and I appreciate that it was dad's. I got it for him in the 1980s with the Pachmayr presentation rubber grips figuring he'd prefer shooting it with them. It was a home defense gun for him, he was not a shooting enthusiast.

Anyway, your photo made me go looking for some wood target grips for it and I found a pair pretty quick. This makes me want to holster it up and carry it! Non-adjustable combat sights, .357 magnum, of course, 4" barrel, blued. Love this gun.
