Chan Eil Whiskers
Fumbling about.
Wow, thank you so much for the detailed explanation. I never knew that it was possible for one handle to fit so many heads. The handle looks absolutely stunning. And the razor head is unique. I took out my Parker Slant and compared it with this image and I see that while my Parker has varying blade gap due to the slant, this doesn't seem to. Also I am not sure if it's just optical illusion or the razor really has the blade straight despite the slant. If so then that is another thing different from my Parker. So this doesn't give that guillotine effect? The slicing effect that is.
The L1+ has the same sort of effect every slant has, but is smoother than many. The blade has a remarkable amount of stiffness and rigidity.
One of my favorite slants - except for one thing - is the RazoRock Wunderbar. It is perfect except it has a decided tendency to suddenly and unexpectedly jump out of the bushes and bite. In my opinion, it's a sophisticated razor design, and very well machined.
I have a good many slants, and tend to like most all of them. The L1+ is, for me, very hard to beat, but I'm certainly no expert on slants nor do I claim to understand razor design and engineering. I just know what I like.
I have not tried the Parker though.
Unfortunately I can't try any of these from where I am. There's a huge import duty and shipping cost involved that makes the price go 2.5 to even 4 times the actual cost.
Cuts down on the RAD, doesn't it.
Luckily I was able to have someone buy and bring me the Rockwell 6S from US. From here the price of the 6C was more than the price of 6S in the US, because of import duties and shipping cost and whatever.
I haven't tried the Rockwell either.
The one razor I might try in future is the Blackland Blackbird.

Here's the Blackbird on the custom handle made for it.

I've not used the Schöne in a long time. Doesn't mean I don't like it.
But I must first try out my Muhle R41 Grande before I decide if that would be wise for me to do. From my personal experience, it's blade gap that does me good and not blade exposure. The Schone razor leaves me red faced. But the Parker Slant and the Razorock 6S with base plate 6 give me very efficient shaves. I am able to use even the sharpest blades like BIC, Feather and Gillette Nacet with the 6S base plate 6 but even milder blades like the Voskhod, Astra Superior Stainless etc on the Schone leave me red faced. R41 has no blade gap but only blade exposure. So I am waiting for this FFFMM to get over so I can try it out. For past 2 years I've been stuck with the 6S but I am loving it. Before that I was always experimenting and want to get back to that.![]()
The R41 is a very interesting razor. I don't use mine much, but I like 'em a good bit.
"Regular" R41s with the two available handles. My favorite is the rose gold. I like these handles. | Titanium R41. The London version. |
The GS, in the middle, is a fine razor. All of the R41s are very good razors.
I'm not big on a great deal of blood exposure.
Happy shaves,
Jim
