What's new

favorite guitars and style played

I'm a sucker for Martins. I have a Sigma myself and love those too. Mine's a GCS-4, though I played a... DM-5, was it?... at a shop once and wow, loved it-- unfortunately a dread's not a good fit for me.

I'm just an uber-beginner. Still no idea if I'll ever figure this thing out-- %#!@&* small hands-- but I need to give it a whirl.

I'm mostly learning fingerstyle, though I know I'm going to need to learn to flat pick as well. Working on everything from rock to classical (simultaneously messing around with Wish You Were Here and the Bach Prelude #1 in C, for example). Need to get better about practicing, but then I always say that about everything musical I do, not to mention chores around the house... there aren't enough hours in the day (and my road to hell's as smooth as the Autobahn...).

Not worried about electric at the moment (that can come later), nor bass )though I definitely need to at least learn enough to play Day Tripper. :) And maybe Seven Nation Army and the bass line to With or Without You as well).

I've owned a Telecaster since 1968, but may favorite is my '62 reissue strat. On the acoustic side, I'm a Martin guy.

I've got an Epiphone SG Special upgraded with a pair of Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates pick-ups, set up for coil tapping and seperate volume controls, and I thought I'd never like a Fender guitar after owning a Squire Strat and a Tele and hating them both (I thought the scale length was the problem) but I recently aquired a Squire (Baby Fender LOL) Jazzmaster after discovering it was the body shape that enabled me to play the instrument comforably. I play through a Vox ad15vt amp for my acoustic guitar I have a Mahogony Gurian.

I've been playing guitar for over 20 years and I am definitely a Gibson man first and foremost.

I love Les Pauls, SGs, Strats & Teles and all of my electric guitars are one of these models.

My regular players are...

Acoustic: Martin D-35 and Boulder Creek Solitaire
Electric: Hwy 1 Strat and Epi Sheraton
Amps: Blackhearts and Fenders

I play mostly blues. I play in the worship band at church when I can too.

I'm a tele man for the most part. Have been thru several, but still have my '92 American standard that I got when I graduated. I go between it and a '72 thinline for praise an worship at church. They run through an 20 watt egnater because I'm too lazy to lug around anything heavier! I use an Epiphone masterbilt AJ-500RE for the acoustic stuff and I personally think it sounds better than a lot more expensive guitars that I've played. Of course, if I had, say a Martin D-35, I would probably change my mind!

hi just wondering what everyones favorite guitars are and what style you play.
i am a TELECASTER man myself.
I had a custom Gibson 6 string. I played jazz and blues. A little country bluegrass
untill my house was broken into and I never saw that guitar again. Mentally something snapped I was never going to have anything special ever again if I don't have it I can't "love it" only to loose it. So I never picked up a guitar again. A banjo
would be kinda fun to play.

Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded/Mahogany in faded cherry - I tried the regular studios, but I much prefer the more natural wood feel of the faded version, and I prefer the tone of it too.
Gibson Firebird
Yamaha Pacifica - it was my first guitar, given to me by my father after he had a brief stint of wanting to learn, but not being able to find the time
Martin DX1 acoustic - what a surprisingly fantastic guitar for the price ($500!)

On the electric, I'm a blues player, and I play blues on the acoustic too, but most of the time, I jam out to some Jack Johnson style 'chillout' type songs. I have a real weakness for that type of music.

Epiphone SG (retired, I nearly wore the frets completely off this one)
Warmoth Strat, alder/maple w/rosewood fretboard, Texas Specials, some custom wiring
Ibanez Prestige 1570, for the hard rock stuff
1967 Martin D28, custom inlays (my baby. My grandfather bought this new in '69, custom soundhole and neck inlays done to a NOS '67 that had a blank fretboard. There were only two made, and one was lost in the late 70s. I remember my grandpa and the music we played every time I strum it)

All my guitars are lefties. I'm having a Warmoth tele made at the end of the year, and will probably have another custom job done by a luthier TBD whenever I am completely finished with school.

Forgot, been playing for 15 years or so, mostly blues, gospel and classic rock (electric) and folk (acoustic) but play or have played jazz, reggae, hard rock/metal, anything really. Don't really play any true classical guitar but have played more classical stuff on other instruments than I can easily recollect.

but I make the argument that Mark Knopfler is the greatest guitarist who has ever lived

That's a bold statement, for sure. I have a hard time laying that title on any one artist, with so many greats to chose from, but IMHO Knopfler is fantastic. I could easily call him the most underrated, though. Too many people (guitarists, even) think of him of "that guy from Dire Straits."

Mark Knopfler is right up there among the best. I wouldn't say he's underrated though.

I play strat-shaped guitars. I guess they just fit better for me. I have a few super-strat types - low action, double locking floating bridge, necks thinner than a chopstick etc but recently been playing a swamp ash traditional strat with bareknuckles in HSH and strung with 13s. Sounds killer.

I play anything that gives me sonic goosebumps. Recently this has included jamming along to some John Coltrane tracks and arranging some Bach into something playable on guitar.

I don't really have a favourite as such, but the best I own is an Ibanez UV777BK -

But recently I can't put down an 80s BC Rich Warlock that I've refurbished with new hardware and electronics, it's a great guitar. Style-wise I play extreme metal through a Mesa Boogie single rectifier, run through a Marshall 1960a slant 4x12 cab

I have several acoustics and a few acoustic/electrics. I have yet to own any electrics. It's very difficult to pin down my favorite. I would consider myself a Martin guy:

Here's my favorite Martins, which I own:
D35 (In 2005, I played two D28s but fell in love with my D35. It has that true bassy Martin sound)
000-18 (The most comfortable guitar I own)
OM-28V (This is an extremely versatile guitar, which is great for both strumming and fingerstyle)

BTW, I play mostly folk and contemporary Country music.

I have a Martin D-16GT and use it to play mostly folk, bluegrass, old timey stuff. My favorite electric was my American Standard Tele, but I sold it a few years back before law school. One day I'll get another one.

I'm a Gibson kinda guy. I play a Gibson SG Standard and a vintage 70's Gibson J-45 Deluxe square shoulder. Big fan of Martin acoustics too, but haven't had the pleasure of owning one yet. Musical styles lean towards country, bluegrass, folk, and blues.
