What's new

Fatip Friday

Cannot wait to take part in this group. I have never owned a Fatip but I have a Grande OC on the way.

I'm not sure why It took me so long to order one because they are incredibly well priced for what you get. Full plated brass for $20 is great value.

Furthermore, while I am sure this is not perfect science, I have noticed recently that the razors I enjoy most tend to combine great blade clamping, low gap and positive exposure. Per my previous statement, the Fatip OC seems like a natural fit. We shall see soon enough.

Greetings Fatip enthusiasts.

I ordered a FOCS and Grande OC a couple of weeks back and they arrived.

The Grande OC looks good, very few imperfections and the blade needs a bit of alignment but that is to be expected.

I know Fatip are known to have small imperfections here and there and that's ok with me, I'm mostly after the shave they provide and for the cost they are offering a full brass razor so it's good value. However the FOCS I received has a chip at the top of the handle where a portion of the plating is missing from the get go. The top cap has heat discoloration on the plating below, not sure how common that is. All in all, I figured I'd ask how common these things are, if it's normal for Fatip or if I should ask for a replacement.

Looking forward to my first shave with the Grande OC tomorrow morning.

FOCS
the bottom of the top cap looks like that for me too, so I guess that is not a defect.
I'd return the FOCS though, because the chip on the handle is a defect.

Fatip Friday

Hello friends

A mild and sunny day. Perfect for MdC Vetiver. Together with Yaqi Moka Express Two Band, FOCS and Perma-Sharp (3), they gave me a perfect shave. I finished with the delicious Malizia Uomo AS.

With us Ray Eberle and Glenn Miller.

Rating: 10

Have a wonderful day and great shaves!

Gentlemen,

A couple weeks ago, I ordered both the FOCS and the Grande OC. This morning, I performed my first shave with the Grande OC (mk2 version) and I fear what I suspected about Fatips is true, namely the fact that they should under no circumstance be underestimated. Sure they have little imperfections here and there and are very affordable but the shave quality is absolutely top notch.

I say this as I have a fairly significant collection of razors, perhaps not as extensive as some of our most experienced enthusiasts on B&B but around 2 dozen razors, many of which are much more expensive than the Fatips of course and yet, for me, the Grande OC performed better than most of them.

I will have to perform more shaves with it just to confirm I am not favoring it during the honeymoon phase but for me the Grande OC was an absolute treat on the first shave, very efficient yet gentle on the skin. In my opinion, the curved and rounded open comb design should be adopted by all open comb manufacturers, it is far more comfortable than the usual straight teeth most designs offer.

I will get an exchange on the FOCS I received but cannot wait to try it as well, as I have heard so much praise for it.

Here is what I used today:

  • Fatip Grande OC chrome
  • Gillette 7 o'clock yellow
  • Razorock Snowman synthetic brush
  • Proraso red sandalwood cream
  • Proraso red sandalwood after shave
Hope you have a great Fatip friday and may the week end treat you well !

I decided to use my Fatip Grande Gentile today. This razor has been getting a lot of FaceTime lately. It continues to impress me. Smooth and comfortable and still decently efficient.

I'm really wanting to try the OC version again. I had one when I first started wet shaving. Back then my technique was not up to par and I would get some weepers and irritation. Instead of working on my technique, I blamed the razor and quickly moved on. Big mistake.
