What's new

Ever tried this!!

My bathroom is beginning to look like a lab at p&g.

I hear you Hank...but, that's 1/2 the fun. It's like cooking. You start off with a recipe someone published, using ingredients they recommend and you slowly make modifications until you find something that is your creation :tongue_sm. Same thing with shaving. The products out there are fantastic, and a lot of man hours have gone into finding a formulation(s) that most will find great. But keep in mind that the operating word is "most". They are made for the average skin/face...for most, that works out fine, but for some, it needs to be tweaked until the right formulation is found.

This is strictly my opinion and depends if you have the patience. interest and time to play around with the chemistry. I am lucky enough to have a career where I make my own time and don't have to be anywhere until I am ready, therefore time is something I have :001_smile.

Cheers,
-Robert

Whatever works for you. If I end up taking much more than 15 minutes for a shave, I start feeling irritable. When I was first getting into the whole wetshaving/DE thing, I found my shaves taking a good half-hour or more. My lather would dry out, my legs and feet would get tired, and I'd be bored. I realized that instead of feeling relaxed, I felt worn out, all just so I could do something that, ultimately, I intend as something to get me ready to face my day, not be my day.

You might be taking a little too long to shave if:

You have to sit down and take a coffee break during your shave.

You install cable TV in your bathroom.

You don't have time left for B&B.

Although I've been shaving for a pretty long time my interest in this only started a couple of months ago. They stopped making the canned shaving cream I used several years ago. (the cost of packaging cost more than the product itself.) So I had no choice and had to use something else. After years of nicks, cuts, razor burn and dry skin I got so discusted I finally decided to look for something else. (Must have been the urea in the Barbasol with aloe.) That's when I found this place. All I hoping to find was a decent can of shaving cream. My bathroom now looks like a cross between a museum, a chemistry lab and a torture chamber.

Sounds like you found what you wanted. :biggrin1:

Not exactly.

Turns out my black SS is a pretty good razor. Picked up a can of Barbasol skin conditioner shave cream. Hopefully it will work and that will be that.

I, personally gave up the canned shaved creme idea awhile back...I thought I had found the prefect shaving can (Aveeno, sensitive skin). But after trying GFT, AOS, TF (and some others) shave cremes/soaps...well, I don't need to tell you. It was a revelation ...Will never go back to can. Cannot compare the two. Night and day difference...for me.

Barbersol skin conditioner shave cream and my black SS is the way to go for day to day shaving. I just used it. It's inexpensive, lubricates well and didn't dry my skin.

If you study old shaving kits that pop up on Ebay or in antique stores, you will sometimes find containers for glycerine included as part of the setup.

If it works for you, do it. :001_cool:

Has anyone tried applying glycerine, and THEN using canned goo? I'm not a big fan of the canned goo, but it works okay for me if I apply shaving oil first. And, considering it saves me 5-10 minutes and a lot of hassle, it's perfect for daily shaves.

Weekends/date nights are a different story though :)

I am kinda new around here but I am going to say it anyways. . ."Method" shaving is nothing but marketing.

This isn't really about RMWS though. It was just a round about way for the OP to discuss using glycerin as part of your shave.

What products are in the video? Anyone have a link to those products? I didn't see it on his website

Well, I'm not enough of a masochist to sit through 33 minutes of Roberts's babbling, but in the first 1:30 he went through all of his standard Method products, which he does sell on his website, last I checked. Which products are you asking about?

I just don't see anywhere on www.shaving101.com a place for any products. Just a blog with articles. Does he have another website?

Shaving 101 isn't Charles Roberts's site. It's an informational site run by some members here who are also fans of the Method. Roberts's store is Enchante, and he has a corresponding website, the link to which funkadelyk has already posted.

Here's the link to Charles' site: http://www.enchanteonline.com/pages/shaveculture/hydrolast/hydrolast.htm
I went through and after a rough estimation it would cost around $150 + shipping about $10 if you want to buy everything he used in the video excluding the Dr. Harris AS.

Well I just made the purchase. Mine came out to 130+. Money came out of my golfing funds. Can't wait to try as I wasn't really ever happy with the feeling of my shaves. Hey this is just like golf, I get to blame the arrow and not the Indian

You should let us know how it works for you. The only difference with golf is your mulligans don't bleed (usually):001_cool: Good luck!

On a different note I tried another little tweak on my last shave instead of putting the glycerin on my face I just used it to make an uberlather but I used a little more than usual and didn't add any water until the very end and it was just a couple of drops. Wow super super slick. I think this was possible due to a the amount of water in my brush (I shake it out pretty good b4 loading with soap) and the little bit on the bottom of the bowl. Just thought I'd share. Thanks to everyone for your input look forward to more opinions in the future.
This is the best site ever!!!

In the video he mentioned something about refreshing the manifold? Hmmm... I dont think any of the definitions of manifold relate to what he was saying.
