What's new

East Coast blizzard

This is the 10th snowiest winter in the state of MA; as for NY maybe the Jets learn to play in the snow.
Ooops, I forgot, they are not playing anymore this season

I am so sick of this white stuff!! Cleaned last night some 6 inches and about a foot this morning. No clue where I will put this stuff anymore.....

I am doing amateur archaelogy on my front yard. I can tell by the layers which storm was which layer. I will post pics shortly.

Jim:

This morning, my 4WD Envoy was hopelessly mired in the 16" we got in Philadelphia. When I realized I couldn't move it, I knew that for safety reasons I needed to stay with my car. So, in order to conserve my strength, save fuel and stay warm I shut it off, locked it up, emailed my boss and went back in the house and returned to bed.

All seriousness aside, Jim, your advice is absolutely correct and we all should be prepared for being stranded. I'm surprised that with 4WD Hi full lockup I still couldn't move my car, even with digging. All-Season tires can't cope with this kind of snow.

Everybody: as an ER nurse I know that this is a "heart attack snow": it's wet, heavy and there is actually 1/2 TON of this white crap on a 10' x 10' pavement or driveway.

Stay warm and be safe.

Ted

Yep- my bride drove it to work this morning at 8 am!

Had to sno- blow the street 275' to get to the main road to get her on the way, really happy about paying my taxes this season:mad3:.

Whew. Just came in from doing about 4 hours of snow removal. Enjoying a frosty cold Sam Smith's India Ale. It's hitting the spot. Might have to go up on the roof and do some shoveling if we get another storm this week.

I used the snowblower to make a path around the house so the dogs and children can have a track to run on. It's pretty fun. The snow is deeper than my three year old twins are tall!

The snow is so deep here that the wild turkeys are hanging out in my driveway. When they travel they're flying from tree to tree instead of dinosaur running. And instead of grubbing around on the ground for food, they're eating bittersweet up in the trees. Pretty interesting. I think I'll put some feed out for them. It's undoubtedly a tough winter on the wildlife.

Well, I did it. Went up on the roof this morning before work and shoveled. Last night I heard a couple of loud popping sounds. Most likely it was just normal sounds of a very cold night, but I wasn't taking any chances. I live in a contemporary cape. It has four different roofs. Two are pitched well enough, but two are definitely not designed to handle more than a 18" of snow.

I used a snow rake on one side, but on the other side there was literally 35" of snow. The sun just doesn't hit it and the way the house is constructed it just doesn't blow away. It was waist deep. If ever I was going to have a heart attack it was this morning...it wasn't just the shoveling that was killing me, it was pretty icy up there!

Tonight I am feeling fine about enjoying a nice Irisch Moos/Slant shave and a neat Knob Creek.
