What's new

Do you tell her everything?

I'm all about transparency, which is probably why I've recently broken up with my long-time girlfriend

I suppose I'm not exactly the best guy to ask when it comes to marriage relations, but IMO, it does you no good to lie, even about small things (i.e. how much you spent on so-and-so) to your significant other. Again, this is coming from a guy that's never been married :001_smile I'll buy whatever I please with my money and she can do the same with hers.

I picked up 35 Astra blades from turkey for 4.50 shipped to Canada. I told her about it and that these blades would last me 2 years. I thought it was remarkably cheap.

But would she really be interested in all the other little personal grooming items I pick up? Would I tell her about the new hairbrush I got? New nail clippers? What aboutt he workshop? Would I tell her about every chisle, carving burr, saw blade or hand plane I buy? Every pocket knife? Fishing lure? She has no interest in these things as I have no interest in knowing about every hairpin, nail file, cottony things, brush or makeup product she buys.

The only time I get really interested in her personal items are when they take batteries.

Eh...tell her the truth. If I discount, its not because I'm holding back...its because I'm rounding to the nearest number! I told her the other day I was going to probably drop $100 on a straight razor. She didn't say a word (it ended up being $25 more )

Seeing as she clears nearly every purchase with me, I do the same for her.

We have a similar agreement currently, any item over X dollars is brought up. (the dollar amount is constantly changing as our budget evolves though) We each enjoy our hobbies and AD's but we are still finishing school, so we keep tight tabs on the budget.

As mentioned earlier, I think that if you thought to bring it up you should tell her.

The best thing is, when she appreciates traditional wet shaving too! This makes her more tolerant and it's IMHO just nice, when your partner is also one of the old school.

Guys, let's be realistic. In this thread we've made comparisons and comments to our wives and girlfriends shoe, makeup and clothing expenditures as if ours pale in comparison.

We spend as much and as often! Step back and read our posts. We read threads on soaps, creams, aftershaves and colognes and open a second browser window to simultaneously search out and buy what we are reading about on the B&B. I do this and I know many of you do too. Let's face it, we are there.

Yeah, I think we're all pretty much there. The fact that a video about straight shaving could basically make me go nuts about buying a straight razor just says it all.

My wife is a stay at home mother so she checks the mail. Even when she did work I told her because 1 we share a bathroom and 2 I'd rather tell her how much I spent on that Futur than lie and deal with rath if/when she found out.

When I told her I was getting in to straight razors and ordered one she said "Let me guess you bought a cheap one to see if you like it enough to buy the more expensive ones, right?"

My ex was a frivlous with money as I am, its a good thing I'm never having kids. "Sorry Chris Jr, no juice boxes for a week, daddy wanted a new razor" probably would not go over so well.

Like someone else above, my wife has a great set of .....

handbags and shoes.

This hobby is cheap compared to some of my other ones ( motorbikes, bush walking, guitars, photography etc... )

Typical conversation ( which actually transpired about an hour ago )

Wifey: Did you get to the bank today ?
Me: Nope
W: Did you look at those hot water urns today ?
M: Nope
W: Did you swap over that safety box today ?
M: Nope. I did find this razor today though !
W: Rolling of eyes :001_rolle

Most of my goodies still get shipped to work though :tongue_sm
