I guess the biggest surprise for me out of this thread is the number of people who haven't heard of dog licenses.

I don't answer the door or the phone. I have found out that when I do there is somebody on the other end of the line or at the door.
Please tell the circumstances of this. Were you practicing or playing w/ the sword or did you go get it just to answer the door?
You mean you're not crazy?
We actually did get a tag from the vet with a registration number on it proving she has all her shots and allowing someone to find us in case of trouble. This and its one replacement are long gone because that cat never went more than a couple of days without somehow removing her collar and coming home bare-necked.
Try answering the door with a combat tomahawk. Add a kilt and you've got nature's way of saying do not touch.

I have to ask: with or without pants?
I am confused as well. I thought it was already established that Blake was nuts. [.quote]
Very well established.
Seems I remember that according to the law, cats cannot be owned. Something about them being independent and all that. Based on that, it should be impossible to require licensing for cats.
They are more like room-mates.

I had heard that dog licenses were required in some places. I did know they were supposed to be tagged. What I don't get is the fee. Where I live, they don't pretend it is a license. They just call it what it is, a tax. They are taxing you for having a pet. That is the part I don't like.

I didn't say I wasn't.

So they're not supposed to cost anything? I mean it's not like the actual tags, mailing them out, and keeping a registry of all licensed dogs costs money does it?
Around here, the government doesn't do that anyhow. My tags for my cat, one I made at a pet shop and the other is a private company. Yet I still have a tax for owning a pet.
Well they do here. My dog's license comes straight from the county.
That makes a little more sense. I still don't see a need to license an indoor cat, but I did just in case he gets lost.
"Mr. Cat, could I see your license and identification papers?"
"I haz no paprz! What dis, Nazi Germuneez?!"
"Papers, please, Mr. Cat!"
"Take yur paprz and shuvs them in yur litterz boks!"
Try that one the next time you get pulled over and the cop asks for your license and registration.

I can ask for his license first.
