Dignity and the Wet shave

Excellent shave today with the Tedalus V1 and Helios with a TiBird and a pair of day 3 Perma-Sharps.

A solid BBS shave with both, though the V1 got there more quickly and with less facial impact. That should not detract from the Blackbird, which provided a wonderful shave.

The Perma-Sharp is a perfect fit for the V1 and an excellent fit for the Blackbird

I really can’t provide enough praise for the Helios brush. A truly outstanding little lather machine which did an excellent job with my home-brew.

Finished up with a bit of Amouage Silver Oud (probably my favorite EDP)

With the travel last month jamming up my schedule for testing blade pairings in the Bonanza, I decided to go back and test the BIC CP against a few additional razors. Today, I tested the BIC with a Diamondback and a Rex Konsul. I will say that the BIC works really well for me in mild razors with strong clamping (and slants). Today was no exception. BBS- with both razors with little to no razor burn. Great shave!

I used a Rudy Vey brush - a larger version of the 2024 B&B group buy. It’s either a 28 or 30mm D01 2-band and has a great balance between scritch, soft tips and backbone. It splays well- not like a Polo14 in Super or a 32mm Zenith Boar that have less scritch, but really well nonetheless, I may get one of them in D-01 3–band some day, maybe in 32 (if Rudy offers them). I really like the D01 2-band when working with harder soaps. Today I used it with my ailing SV Dolomite and it did a great job.

Finished up with a bit of Creed Neroli Sauvage. Love it!

Have a lovely Friday, folks!

Hahahaha..... why did it take me so long to realize your Sauvage IV is/was an attempt to copy a flavor of another product? I thought Sauvage was a smarty pants word/phrase and i wondered about the 4 after it. Dummy me..... hahahaha....

A great puck of soap that my sniffer cooperated with me a little and i got a good sniff of your soap throughout my last shave. A Thank You again for your Sauvage IV puck of soap. I am feeling a little like i'm betraying you because i am just sample using your Sauvage IV and it probably won't be whipped up again in maybe a month.

@BigAlVista Mark, Have a great weekend and shaves.

Thanks, Tommy, as long as you are enjoying the soap, I’ve accomplished my mission! Actually, the fragrance is based on Dior’s “Sauvage”, not Creed’s.

Have a lovely weekend!

I’ve really been enjoying my adjustables lately and decided to try an Osprey. Any thoughts on it?
I have one and it’s clearly a very fine razor. Shane worked out an innovative approach to clamping the blade at the edge but still allowing the top cap to go up and down to control the gap. The 2-3 times I’ve used it I felt I needed to open it up pretty wide to get the efficiency I like, around 7, and although during the shave it felt ok, after the shave I felt some residual discomfort. Sort of like razor burn. It seemed the facial impact was pretty high (meaning rough). That said, I never spent enough time with it to dial in a technique, so this could be entirely user error. The build quality is excellent.

Do you have it in Stainless or Ti?

Yep. That’s what I ordered. Fingers crossed! I ordered it in “shiny”. I figure with that, a Muramasa, a Konsul and a Sailer, I’m set on adjustables for a while. I have a Saber in Stainless coming in on Monday. Not having much Gem experience, I wanted that in something I could return.
I got the polished too. I figured better to just go for it rather than a lifetime of regret. 🤪 Can’t wait to hear your impressions of the Saber. I’ve never used a GEM razor.

I get the sense we have similar preferences in razors. Aside from the Meta4 you have, we share pretty much the same collection of razors you rank at 29 or higher (I never tried the Meta4).

The Meta4 is a really interesting razor that’s a great value. One of its cool unique features is the clamp width is 22mm which is the full width of the average blade. This is as wide as you can go and the widest of my razors. It’s able to do this and still reveal some blade by creating a cut out in the top cap. The result is superlative clamping. But to be frank, the BBS- camp is a crowded playing field in which the Overlander gets most of my attention.
