Diamond coated razor blades anyone?

Such a razor has already existed for well over 100 years, it's called a straight razor!! :tongue_sm:laugh::biggrin1::thumbup:

That's true, sort of. Except that these blades are sharper than any steel can be made sharp. And they stay sharp longer than any steel can hold an edge.

Best of both worlds... a solid sapphire straight razor! Second best, a diamond coated straight razor! Nano-edge, in the traditional configuration. Can you imagine it? I wouldn't have any problem paying several hundred bucks for such a razor, if I could custom order the blade size/shape. It would be a whole nother kind of shave! You would probably have to keep the blade flat to your face as if honing it on your skin. These blades literally slice cells in half.

Today's issue of Investors Business Daily, reports:

A diamond-coated blade may become the shaver's best friend. German firm GFD is developing a consumer razor that's coated with a film of synthetic diamond. GFD adds such a film to its industrial blades of tungsten carbide, and sharpens them with ions of oxygen or chlorine gas. The consumer blade would be 10 times sharper than the industrial version. If the company finds a manufacturer, the shaving blades could hit the market in a few years, according to MIT Technology Review.
