What's new

Complete this phrase: I am just about ready to give up on:

Maybe if you removed the Sunderland crest the Palmolive might like you?

Must say it was sporting of you, Newcastle Neil, to avoid what must have been the temptation make a "just about ready to give up on the Premiership" reference in my direction. Heh heh. We keep the faith.

Pre-shave anything. I don't think the slightly marginal difference in my shave is worth the extra cost and time.

And just yesterday I was thinking that if I had to name a single must-have item, it's Proraso Pre-Shave Cream. It's the only thing I use every day and, if I don't, it's a night and day difference for me.

One's mileage may vary indeed.

I honestly think I don't see much difference with pre-shave products because I slather on Cetaphil and AmLactin lotions throughout the day to treat some skin issues I had that were unrelated to shaving. The ingredients in those lotions are very similar to what's in a lot of pre-shave products. Even though I shower before shaving, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of lasting, residual effect on my hair and/or skin, particularly with the AmLactin.

Shaving related,

I slather Noxzema cream on my face before I go to sleep just like a 50s housewife (It's honestly the only thing that ever fixed my acne). The oils and moisturizing ingredients in the Noxzema seem to soften the whiskers really well after it's been on my face for eight hours.

Mama bear soap. It performs abysmally and doesn't even smell like cannabis. And I have 15 more soap samples from this company to get through

You are just about ready to give up on shaving one small area of your neck?

Life: is a college degree really necessary?!

+1

And with that, I have nothing else to add.

Well no, a college degree is absolutely not necessary to live and work in the world. It is an absolute requirement for some professions, of course. But unless you have a specific career path in mind that requires a specific regimen. I would say you have many options to further your education. Maybe you should consider taking a semester, or more, off to work, bum around, read, whatever. Maybe you should try a different educational path. But if you are locked into thinking you need to graduate college in order to get a job, and don't enjoy what you are learning (or simply not learning) you may need to change your approach. Start learning about stuff you like, and really want to know more about. Maybe you take only one or two classes, those that really interest you, and work for awhile. There is not ONE right way to get an education. Figure out what you don't like about your current situation, and what would make it better.

I have found few things as rewarding as a good education. But it shouldn't come at figurative gunpoint (even if it is you figuratively pointing the gun at yourself).

(Maybe I should give up offering unsolicited advice---but I'm not about ready to.)

Sensor Excel - which is my travel razor.

I used this razor for 20+ years (was a wetshaver from start) - but since moving to DEs - I find this razor very harsh.

My winter beard. I'm still on the fence. On the one hand, it's completely ruined my shaving routine, and it feels weird sometimes. On the other hand, in the U.P. in winter, face fur is a nice thing to have.

Merkur, Wilkinson Sword and Astra Sp blades. I am new to DE razors and though I have found some blades that definitely work well for me, I will revisit these blades in around one year and see if they will work for me then.

Any aftershaves. I think they are helping to cause more ingrowns, but in the winter I do need more moisturizing than just Thayers w/ Aloe.

Chasing the latest soap or cream I read about here - I've successfully avoided purchasing the new Valobra pucks, XXX(t), ACBCA, King of the Castle, Sterlings, B&M,etc. That's not to say I haven't been tempted.

Pre-shave oil - I have not found that it makes a bit of difference and does not add to my enjoyment of my shave.

If you're not enjoying it, get rid of it. There are so many great products that I don't think a person should spend time putting up with those that are not enjoyable. I went through 3 MB samples before getting rid of the rest.
