What's new

Clubman After Shaves smells like.

Clubman After Shave Lotion - smells like a traditional barbershop.
Clubman Vanilla After Shave Lotion - mild vanilla smell, doesn't last long, to me
Clubman Lilac Vegetal After Shave Lotion - Smells like a lilac garden, if you are among The Chosen.
Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum - Clovey and spicy, smells like Christmas baking.
Clubman Lime Sec Eau de Cologne - sweet, smells like candy
Clubman Citrus Musk Eau de Cologne - nice lime-citrus smell with a faint musky background
Clubman Special Reserve After Shave Cologne - Leathery, smokey... Smells like my Grandma.
Osage Rub - Smells like Vick's vapor rub. The menthol smell goes away quickly and you are left with a faint powdery smell. You don't buy it for the smell, you buy it for the intense cooling!

Clubman is incredible, I could bathe in the stuff, talc is the predominant scent, reminds me of being in the barber chair back in the day. Special Reserve on the other hand, whew, I could not abide, threw it out. I don't know what it is but there's a sickening sweet note in Reserve that smells like old woman.

All my local CVS carry Pinuad Clubman aftershave and the talc powder. Pinaud Clubman is one of my favorites, it smells clean like a man should.

Jim

I'm all for that.

Original Clubman smells like light citrus, vanilla, spices, cloves and powder - an unbelievable scent imo.

Lilac Vegital smells like urine to me (likely a thought induced by the forums persistence of its similarities with urine, but I have to wholeheartedly agree) and is the only shaving product I've ever returned to the store.

I can see where the lilac vegetal is going to be YMMV. LOL!!

I'll have to see if I can find some vanilla and bay rum to try.

I'll pass on the old woman smell. LOL!! Thanks.

I had to give Special Reserve another quick try and think of old ladies. Yes, now that scent and the image is stuck in my mind. Had to overpower it with some regular Clubman. Now I smell like an old lady barber.

I'm 30 and it smells exactly like the men's showers at athletic clubs in the 80's. They must have had complimentary bottles. I hadn't smelled the stuff in 20 years but the second I popped the cap off, right back in time.

Clubman smells like a slick used car salesman from the '60's.

Vegetal smells like a used diaper that a cat tinkled in, then dusted it with baby powder and then dragged it through a damp flower garden.

Other than that, it's fine.

Just ordered some Osage Rub from WCS (and a few other things) so I'll be trying that next. I checked out some CVS but no joy. I think I'll stay away form the veg for now. :001_smile

But I did wear the VEG twice this week and it wasn't bad at all. I think the problem (for me) is that it just kinda sorta borders on smelling a tad feminine.

Just use more! If you're going to wear The Veg, you've got to WEAR The Veg, LOL. Embrace it. Light and flowery = feminine. Big, Bold, Floral = masculine. :Veg:

The VEG isn't high on my list. It doesn't smell bad but it doesn't wow me. I'm hooked on Bay Rum I guess. But I did wear the VEG twice this week and it wasn't bad at all. I think the problem (for me) is that it just kinda sorta borders on smelling a tad feminine. Complete opposite of Clubman. Well, Clubman. :wink2:

Oh believe me, there isn't an aftershave I use lightly. :biggrin1: I don't dab or sprinkle or even splash. I'm a dumper. And I am a repeater. I apply heavily. Then re-apply. Then get dressed and apply again. :thumbup1:

Original Clubman is the only one I have experience with, and to me it smells like a barber shop. I love classic scents.

To me the "Original" Clubman is almost a dead-ringer for Canoe, an AS very popular in the '60's. According to Dana's webpage:
canoe is classified as a refined, spicy, lavender, amber fragrance . This masculine scent possesses a blend of brisk citrus with accents of lemon and oakmoss.

I put some in a little pump sprayer for my son (6 years old). He puts it on his palms and applies it to his face. This way I don't have to worry about him spilling a whole bottle of Clubman. I figure if he's going to "shave", he might as well smell like "victory" as one poster put it. I'll tell ya, he smells freaking great. If you want to know what it smells like, spalsh it on your kid. You don't want to go sniffing a man to see what it smells like, but giving your son a hug is great.

Women chase him down the street. He's like a 6yo rock star.

Note: No children were harmed in the making of this post. There is no blade in my son's razor. There is, however, VDH on his brush, a chrome TTO in his hand, and a smile on his face.

That's awesome!!

I'm a Lumberjack.
Clubman site sells samples.
The veg smells like cat urine and the inside of a funeral home.

Still have yet to try any of them, I just don’t frequent the Wally Mart often enough to think about it. The original, bay rum, whiskey woods, and vanilla sound like winners though.

Pretty Tacky, I would like to put my foot in the part of your body where the sun does not shine. You sir obviously were not there or a comment like that would not have come out of your mouth.

You're right I have not but I have family who were. I myself am a two war, retired veteran. Meant no disrespect to any other vet or any person who have experienced combat or had to live in a war torn region past or present. The comment has been taken care of by a moderator.

Above all - YMMV.

Special Reserve is a dark, smokey kind of scent.
Musk is a sweet aroma, totally different from, say, AV Musk.
The Veg smells like a urinal cake to me, and the Vanilla has a floral quality. The Bay Rum is very clovey, and neither the Lime Sec or Citrus Musk did much for me on the first try. I'm thinking I might give those last two another whirl.
