Citrus Cologne

Bergamot is a citrus too, I think ... ?

Penhaligon's Douro/Lords is my favourite, but how about ...

Royall Lime?
Floris JF?
Art of Shaving Lemon cologne?
Guerlain Vetiver? (a citrisy initial blast)
Ralph Lauren Safari? (for the tangerines out of the nozzle)
DR Harris Arlington? (the citrus makes the rosiness bearable)
QED Bergamot SS?
Which do I like second best?

Yes. Exactly.

I wouldn't call Safari a citrusy scent, even if the opening blast might (vaguely) suggest it.

I seem to have lost before I sent it an attempt at a posting in this threead. My first shot was probably a better effort by me. I apologize for any lapses.

+1 on Pen's BB and Issey for lemon. Both are controversial scents, though, so I would try before I bought, although it seems like I have seen references to BB by you, bokaba, so you would know. Issay has amazing tenacity and is certainly not just lemon, not that BB is just lemon either. (It is also pine, pepper, and wood.)

+1 on C&S Citrus Paradisi for grapefruit is wonderful. Chaumet Homme is you can find it is a very different and wonderful take on grapefruit.

For orange, any of the nerolis really, and most of the eau de portugals, but not to me Pen's Douro Eau de Portual. I do not know how to classify Douro, but as a Portugal is not what comes to mind for me. I like Pinaud's Eau de Portugal a lot, even though it is rather light and is sold as a "hair tonic." it is a great AS, if not a full cologne. All of these are really neroli and orange rather than a pure orange, except for GFT Portugal, which to me is very much orange with no neroli that I smell. Good stuff.

Hoyt's is more bergamot than neroli to me, but I would agree that bergamot is really a citrus. Great stuff. Everyone should know this classic juice.

To me, Dunhill (1934) opens with a nice rush of citrus, which probably has lemon, lime, orange, and maybe grapefruit, too, in it, but it me that stage transitions fully into something dominated by florals and finishes dominated by wood with some bit of lingering floral, but no lingering citrus that I can detect. Thus, I wou;d not consider it a citrus.

Good questions whether "the AdPs different enough to warrant trying them all?" I would say the level of citrus versus other ingrediants, such as floral and wood, varies among them quite a bit.

I notice that not many folks responding are referring to purely lime scents, and I am not really qualified to talk about them either. I suppose at the end of the day, lime seems more like a short longevity AS scent that something to try to hold onto all day in an edt, but I would like to try the Pen's Anthglogy version, for sure.

I'm on the CREED website and I see that there is a cologne called Orange Spice, not sure if this is new or not? The description: "Created for one of England's most flambuoyant dramatists and authors of the 1800's, Orange Spice is a wild mix of bergamot orange, neroli, ambergris and spices. Its mischevious lightness of spirit is completely carefree -- yet clearly the result of classical method."

Characteristics: Spicy and fruity with delicious orange. Aromatic, fresh, mysterious and spicy with a powdery dry down, for those who appreciate a long lasting citrus.

* Top Notes: Bergamot, orange
* Middle Notes: Neroli
* Base Notes: Ambergris, spices

Has anyone tried it?

I owned Orange Spice. Kouros was inspired by OS...or was it the other way around? In any case, it's fairly similar to Kouros but has very strong orange top notes. The drydown progresses differently, but they have a very similar vibe, almost as if they're cousins. If you like Kouros you'd probably like Orange Spice, if you don't like it, you might like Orange Spice anyways.

It's not a "fresh scent" though, it does have a good deal of heavy spices, as the name would imply

I'm not really a fan of citrus fragrances but I do like Floris' JF. I think it's because aside from citrus notes, it has other things happening too.

Have any of you guys tried Penhaligon's Quercus? It described as clean, clear and fresh:

"Named after the Latin for oak - strong and traditional, the symbol of Englishness. The alchemy of citrus and amber. Modern, light and very assured.

Quercus declares itself with a light burst of citrus and basil, supported by a heart accord of jasmine, cardamom and muguet that is sweet, spiced and supremely delicate. The greenness of the basil persists into the surprisingly resilient musk and sandalwood base notes. These are warmed through with moss and patchouli to create elegant, strong and uplifting cologne.

A cologne for everyday, for anyone who enjoys the sensation of invigoration.

Quercus Notes
Lemon, Lime, Mandarin, Bergamot, Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Cardamom, Oakmoss, Sandalwood, Galbanum, Musk, Amber"

I tried a sample of Quercus. It was ok, but it struck me as being similar to colognes one can get at a department store for less money. (I think someone here or on basenotes compared it to CK One.)

It also reminds me of one of the Creed scents. I can't remember if it's Silver Mountain or Himalaya or one of the others.

Just read about this one that is coming out in May. It is by Andy Tauer and is called Orange Star.

Here is the description: "Orange Star is one of those remarkable ones, a special fragrance bursting with twinkling citruses like clementine, red mandarine, lemongrass, and brought halfway down to earth with the barely reined-in lusty notes of ambergris, vanilla, patchouli and the resinous ambreine. "

If you like grapefruit, then Eau de Pampelmousse Rose by Hermes is great. Doesn't last long on me, but I really like it.

The citrus fragrances I use are Burberry Weekend which is a nice relaxing lemon fragrance.
Lacoste Challenge presents a another light lemon & ginger scent.

As well, Truefitt & Hill 1805 is very citrus. This one is lovely for summer :thumbup1:

I'm appalled! No one mentioned Truefitt and Hill West Indian Limes. I'm wearing the balm right now. It's wonderful.

Not sure I would classify 1805 as "very citrus." There is a lot of bergamot in the top notes, but it settles pretty quickly into what I'd call a "marine" scent rather than a true citrus.
