Chubby 3

Whilst I'm sure that the Chubby3 is a wonderful brush, I can hardly imagine having a face large enough to use it properly :001_cool: I have the Chubby2 in Super 2-Band and it is one of my luxury brushes which I use on the weekend (or when I am not dashing off to the office in a hurry)- it is great and plenty large enough for my purposes.

The Chubby 3 two band has been mentioned a few times, I don't think I've seen a Vulfix version. Does it even exist?

Would the Chubby 2 be good for soaps and face lathering?I read that it is more suited for creams and that has got me worried because I am not needing a cream brush.

I am thinking I want the two-band for some reason.

Paul

I have the Chubby 2 two-band and I find it to be very good with soaps, actually better with soaps than creams in my personal experience.

All these people talking about how BIG the chubby 3 is. I've had 30mm normal brushes that were way bigger. I have the chubby 3 in super. Mine is an older one. personally I don't think in the scheme of things it's really that big. To me it's a medium sized brush and I don't like big brushes. All my brushes are in the 25-26mm category and the chubby fits in with them just fine. yes it's a great brush and it's no lather hog.

SliceOfLife also has an older Chubby 3, that is slightly smaller than the new Chubby 2's. I dont know if yours is of the same generation, but the newest Chubby 3's are much bigger.

What a beast!

Any full frontal shots?
:001_cool:

I will take one in a couple of days when I get home to my own place again.

Talk about size of the Chubby 3. I saw at Lee`s place that the Chubby 3 is a 29 mm knot size. I shecked the one I have myself a time ago, and mine is at least 33 mm. I will measure that exactly when I get home also.

Does anyone know about the stiffness or softness of a 3 band CH3? I'm wondering if it is a floppy brush or not, and what a guy could compare it too.

I had an earlier Polo10 that was pretty darn soft. Too soft in fact to lather soaps properly. The bristles simply were not stiff enough.

I think the the two band Ch3 would not be too large. It's a fun brush and probably kills soaps. The two banded bristle gives it that flow through that releases lather well.

My Chubby has the third softest tips of any brush I have ever used (over 20 now) but it has the backbone and density to tear chunks of soap off. I got a 4 pass shave out GFT Coconut with 15 or so swirls the other night. The closest brush I have to it is the Rooney Heritage Stubby 3 Three band. The density is on par, softness is similar, the Rooney just has an even flatter fan shape and wider bloom. I prefer the Chubbys handle too. It is much bigger and easier for me to hold onto.

The CH3 super that is pictured on that link has a clear fan shaped loft. I've never seen such a thing. They seem to all have more of a bulb shaped loft these days.

My Chubby 3 three band has a definitive fan shape. My Chubby 2 two band is a bulb though. Both are of the newer generation.

As far as the fan and bulb issue goes, I think it all has to do with the grade of hair used in the brush.

Super Two-Band = Bulb
Best = Bulb/Fan Hybrid
Super = Fan

I have been told by a merchant whom I trust that Vulfix really hasn't changed how the brushes are knotted in the Simpson line of brushes.

However, who knows in the end?

I am still debating which brush to get. I am leaning towards a Two-Band Chubby 2, but the Two-Band Chubby 3 keeps intriguing me.

As promised, a few more photos of the Chubby 3 Super Badger paired with a Simpson Emperor 2 Super Badger. I have measured the knot-size of both these brushes excatly tonight, and the Emperor 2 has a 21 mm knot dead on, the Chubby has a 33,2 mm knot size. Not only is the knot size enormous, the Chubby is so incredible packed with hairs you must see to belive it. The luxury feeling of the 3 band Silvertips of my Chubby 3 is fantastic.

Its the strongman of brushes, you'll find it dense enough.
