Different brushes exfoliate different. So it affects the shave direct.
Different lather gives you a different shave. Different brushes give you different lather (at least with the same amount of work). So it also affects the shave indirect.

I am here because I was looking for an answer about "brush irritation". I seem to have issues with face lathering a boar brush I have. I soaked it on the hot water for a good amount of shower time, so I assumed it would be "soft enough". I dont think I have sensitive skin, but as soon as it prickled into my face, the sting that it created lasted for a good hour. I know it isnt the lather, as I was using TOBS Jermyn Street "for sensitive skin" which I have used in the past with no issue. I think I will try bowl lathering and applying it by hand to see if that makes the difference. But in relation to this threads topic, yes...it completely destroyed my shave. I mean, I still got it smooth, but it hurt like the fires of hell the whole time, so was not enjoyable AT ALL. Maybe I will peruse the BST for a silvertip.
