Calling All Canadians- Traveling Box

After watching more than one Big Traveling Box make the rounds south of the border, I thought it was long overdue for all of us Canadians to get together and do one of our own.

Canada Post is going to be our biggest draw-back; We'll need to organize a fairly tight rota to keep costs down.

I have a nice little entry level straight, a TM practice strop, some Tabac cream and maybe a surprise or two to get the ball rolling that I will put into the box.

So what do you all say? Involvement would require a minimum post count of 50, lives in Canada, and a desire to try some different products.

My thoughts for the box at the end are to sell the contents off and donate the proceeds to Miles of Smiles.

Here is a list of suggested rules: (Thanks to Luc)
-Do not donate something that you wouldn't use if it came from a stranger
-Don't go crazy with the donations, the same box must close in the end.
-Try to limit yourself to 1 item out of the box
-Try to replace and contribute to the box if you can. Something of a similar value is appreciated. Try not to add things that are already existing in the box (we don't want to end up with 2 dozen Williams soaps).
-Keep and try items in the box for a week.
-Post what you liked and didn't like in the thread
-If you mailed the box, post when and to who. If you have a tracking number, please add it.

If you are interested, please post here, and send me a PM with your info. (Please do not post your address in an open thread).
As soon as we get enough respondents to get a mailing loop organized, we'll get it going. (Please note; your place on the mailing list will be determined by your geographic location in an effort to keep mailing costs down for each participant, however, if you are stuck mailing it from say, BC, to Newfoundland, I'll gladly help to offset the costs).

I hope this can be a fun and entertaining way to try some different products.
Let's get together, Canadians, and get this ball rolling!

Cheers,

woops, sorry, I shoulda posted this in the PIF forum. Mods, would you be so kind as to move it for me?

I'm in.

Two Calgary one Red Deer so far. Hey we can avoid Canada Post altogether so far!

Seriously, I have no issue with pick-up and drop off myself in the Calgary area.

I'd be game for this. That makes 3 Calgarians. For people in the same cities or close to eachother, we could always arrange a meet up to just exchange the package. Would help keep costs down and maybe when it's forwarded on, people in the same location could split the cost to forward it on.

We should have Tupperware-eque parties in Calgary. Kind of a meet and greet and check out others products, razors, etc. Even invite Scott @ RasagePoulin to bring some goodies to check out or even purchase.

Right on! 9 and myself makes ten. That's a pretty good start. Luc's generously offered to donate some Down Under goodies to our endeavor, so as soon those arrive I'll post the box!

I'll probably make a trip to Calgary to drop it off for it's first leg, (SWMBO's been buggin' me for a day trip to the Big City anyways...) and then I think it should do a trip to BC before heading east. Hopefully it can skip it's way across the prairies with out any one guy having to post outside their region.

I'll do up and post a preliminary list tonight or tomorrow evening.

Thanks for the great response! This should be a pretty neat thing!

Kind regards,

Luc

I would say, try and pick-up as much participants as you can. I might take a while for the box to come back to you Chris but it will be quite a journey!

First draft list:

1. Suna, Calgary
2. CSMorris, Calgary
<either/or depending on drop off availablility or whatever>
3.KeNdo, Southern AB
4. Maher, Richmond, BC
5. Justinsane, Vancouver, B.C.
<it would be great to add another prairie dweller in here... any one in Sask or Man. who want's in??>
6. Hairapparent, Ottowa, ON,
7. Granaura, Ottowa, ON
<If you guys want to work out some kind of drop off between the two of you that would be fine>
8. Maxman, Northern ON,

Due to Canada Post's crazy price scheme, we should establish amongst ourselves wether it's worth paying extra for tracking and insurance, or if we should just hang it out and go for it with uninsured. I'd hate to see it get lost, if it does and it's insured, at least Miles of Smiles would see something from it. If one does, we all should though, so maybe a quick count of hands?

We can let the thread sit and cook a bit. There will be a few days before your package arrives, Luc, which should give some more guys a chance to jump in. And, of course, I think the list can stay open to account for new guys joining en-route. Flexibility is key....

I have to admit, I'm already curious to see what this may bring.... I might have found a new AD.. the BTBAD! If I get to try even one new thing, I'll consider it a success.
