Cade scent

cade oil is VERY VERY VERY strong smelling. it smells like a huge fire.

+100! Formidable indeed. It's like tar & smoke mixed, and yes, very very strong. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if there's no actual "cade" in L'Occitane's Cade. If there is, it's way mixed back so that it's more of an overall scent texture than anything else.

Interesting. 7th & 15th in the blend seems pretty mixed-back to me.

The ingredient listed in the splash just before Cade is "parfum/fragrance." I wonder what fragrance they use? Maybe it's something meant specifically to dilute and/or mellow out the Cade scent to make it a little more palatable.

Even mixed back the Cade scent really comes through, to my nose. I it was higher up on the list I think it would be overpowering.
There is something else in the splash that smells great, I wonder if it's the parfum?

I need to smell it again.

There's a perfume I own that incorporates cade, rose, oud & some other stuff. In that blend, the cade really cuts through -- its "campfire" smokiness combines with the rose & oud to form a really unusual, powerful scent composite. After smelling that, it's kind of hard for me to smell the cade in Cade. Again tho, I need to refresh my scent memory.

Who knows. Could be, along w/all the other oils & extracts they use.

What about Herbissimo Mountain Juniper splash by Dana? I have it and the Cade soap and aftershave balm, but I've never tried them together. Again, this is not an EDT though, but an AS lotion/splash. Just a thought.

Ok. Used the Cade splash just a little while ago.

The scent of actual cade is there but it's pretty mixed-back, as I remembered. Its smokiness is also pretty heavily mitigated by the other oils & scents in the blend. But the cade itself is most definitely discernable.

Jeke. Wow. Just wow.

One spray and I smell like a fireman who just battled a five-alarm fire then jumped into a tub of olive juice.

The four Slumberhouse samples I received smell unlike any fragrance in the world.

We'll see how the Jeke dries down, but it's now obvious that the L'Occitane Cade contains very little actual Cade.

Again, wow.

On its own Cade oil has a formidable scent. To my nose it is almost tar like. I bought some a few years ago in hopes of replicating Cade Splash. It didn't work out. The Cade oil in the splash was just one component that made it great.

You are correct, Cade essential oil alone is repulsive. Imagine what your clothes smell like after sitting by a campfire all night (stale smoke) that is the best description I have for it. My 11 yr old son was in my shop one night, I handed him the bottle of Cade and asked him what it smells like, his response was "Lost Valley Lake". That is where we camp frequently. : ) I have tried mixing it with many things, TERRIBLE.

I've been playing around with some cade oil that was sent to me and find it blends well with some patchouli and mint, would like to try some sage and sandalwood, maybe some jasmine or tuberose as well, maybe even some limes. A little bit goes a LONG way, for sure, it's kinda sweet and reminds me of liquid smoke, but in the right amount I think is a fantastic addition.

Agreed, wholeheartedly. The rose/cade/oud perfume I have is quite unusual & a thing of beauty. You're right -- only the tiniest bit of cade is needed.

I will go back to experimenting with it again soon, had to let my nose hairs grow back. Cade is great for the skin!

Cade does well with vetiver and rosewood, too, for those experimenting. Balsam fir works, as well, if there's something there to brighten it up a bit.

Using my bottle of Cade AS sparingly. I bought it at a shop at Four Seasons Maui three years ago on a whim and recently went to buy another and *poof*. Gone.
Searching high and low. Just got in a bottle of QC Celestial Woods ASB which is spot on...but not a splash. My search continues...

I love the smell of Cade and down to my last bottle. I will say I have found a damn near identical product at 1/4 the price. Honey bee gardens Sandalwood. It can be found at whole foods so you can try it out. It is very similar and my wife can't tell the difference at all. Amazing aftershave also. Will fill my Cade bottle when empty with the hbs Sandalwood going forward.

Old thread, I know, but...
L'occitane use actual Juniper pieces of wood, steam distilled, to get their special scent.
What they use is very far from the standard "Cade Essential Oil" you can buy on the net, that both smells and looks like tar.

So, this thread reminds me: I recently got the edt.

It smells NOTHING like the soap, balm, or long extinct splash.

Very sad indeed. Probably won’t wear this edt. It’s not great, plus it doesn’t last very long.
